- Attractive and peaceful Alsace site on the banks of Lac de Schoenau
- Colmar, Europa-Park and Haut-Kœnigsbourg Castle within 40 mins' drive
- Private beach area, plus snack bar, bike hire and miniature golf
One of the intriguing things about the Alsace area is its blend of French and German culture – and you’ll be in prime position to explore both of those when you stay at Camping le Lac de Schoenau, right next to the border on the Rhine river.
From here it’s easy to get out to the many attractions on both sides of the border, spending some time in towns like Colmar and Sélestat on the French side or crossing over into Germany for attractions like Europa-Park and Haut-Kœnigsbourg Castle. It’s also a great spot for cyclists, with the EuroVelo bike path 15 passing very close by – and a lovely location for wine enthusiasts, who can follow the Alsace Wine Route and drop in to lots of vineyards along the way.
The waterside setting here is a wonderful bonus too – as the name suggests, this site is not only right next to the Rhine but also on the banks of Lac de Schoenau, a gorgeous spot with cool, clean water and a private beach area. Here you can take a swim (with lifeguards supervising in summer), walk the peaceful lakeside paths, take a paddleboard or pedalo out, or just put your feet up and enjoy the view.
Facilities have been nicely thought out here – guests have access to a snack bar for easy meals and drinks, and kids can have fun at the playground, miniature golf and volleyball court. There’s also wifi, a chemical disposal point and bathrooms with toilets and showers. A grocery store (with bread service) and restaurant are 15 minutes’ walk away for more food options.

Local attractions
This site is well placed for cyclists – particularly those taking on the EuroVelo 15 route (or at least part of it). There are plenty of less strenuous options around though, and the site is happy to organise bike rentals through a local partner and offer tailored route guidance for your party. There are lovely walking trails nearby too, or you can go fishing in the Rhine for some gentle activity.
Several local towns are great places to stroll, too – the likes of Colmar (40 minutes’ drive), Ribeauvillé (40 minutes) or Eguisheim (45 minutes) perhaps. You could also easily fill a day in Strasbourg (50 minutes) or Freiburg im Breisgau (an hour) as well.
Other days out might take you to Haut-Kœnigsbourg Castle (40 minutes) and Écomusée D’Alsace (an hour) or, if you’ve brought the kids, Europa-Park (half an hour), La Montagne des Singes (35 minutes) and Parc à Cigognes (50 minutes).
