  • Leafy site with mountain views half an hour’s drive from Foča
  • Piva Lake 35 minutes’ drive; Durmitor National Park one hour
  • Rafting, canyoning, hiking, cycling and zipwiring arranged on site
Founded in 2007 as a rafting club, Outdoor Resort TaraSport has evolved into a top site for adrenaline tourists in the region of Bosnian-Podrinje – and it’s also a top spot for spectacular views over forested mountains and the turquoise waters of the Drina River. Set in stunning landscapes between Sutjeska and Durmitor national parks (about one hour’s drive to either), the site provides a mixture of accommodation options with handy facilities including football fields, volleyball courts and a play area for toddlers. A whole bunch of hardcore outdoor activities can be organised directly on site – from rafting, to canyoning and zipwiring, and from horse riding to cycling and hiking. Families and friends travelling together are encouraged to stretch themselves and try something new, and whatever sport you wish to try, chances are the helpful and expert on-site teams will be able to arrange it for you. Custom-made sightseeing tours into historic towns like Sarajevo (one hour and 55 minutes) and Višegrad (one hour and 40 minutes) can also be booked on site. Traditional Balkan dishes are on the menu in the chalet-style restaurant. And don’t forget that Outdoor Resort TaraSport is pretty remote, so pick up anything you might need during your stay in the riverside town of Foča (half an hour) before you arrive.

Local attractions

A spectacular reservoir surrounded by forested limestone cliffs, Piva Lake (35 minutes’ drive) is a base for several activities, including swimming and boating. Anglers might be able to catch a trout or two here, while hiking trails will take you to observation points with fabulous views of the turquoise waters. The Orthodox Piva Monastery (45 minutes) used to sit on the river Piva, but it was relocated stone by stone over more than a decade due to the construction of the dam that eventually created Piva Lake. The church, which was first built in the 16th century, contains colourful frescoes and gilded icons by Greek artists. Durmitor National Park covers a large area of forests, glacial lakes and mountains, many of which reach well above 2,000 metres of altitude. The park is also known for its dramatic gorges, such as Tara Canyon, a popular destination for canyoning, rafting and birdwatching.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very accommodating! They upgraded us from a tenting pitch because the camp next door played music loud until late. We were able to use a cabin at no extra cost! We found this very generous.
There is a short walk down to the river where you can take a fresh swim! Be mindful of the current and be prepared for VERY cold water.
You can book all of your canyon experiences and tours through the staff on site.
