  • Spacious and scenic pitches at a family-run Valbona Valley site
  • A five-minute drive to the start point of the Valbona-Theth trail
  • Dog-friendly site with restaurant, shop and barbecue area
Just look at those views – all gorgeous greenery and soaring peaks wherever you look. That’s the very special backdrop that awaits for guests at Camping Redon, a peaceful family-run site in the Valbona Valley, surrounded by the Albanian Alps. Gazing out at those views is a wonderful way to pass a few hours – but presumably you’d like to get out for a closer look at that spectacular scenery? This site is well placed for lots of activities that will help you do just that, whether you’re into hiking, climbing, mountain biking and birdwatching, or slow, gentle days of riverside picnics, wild swims and snapping pics. Guests of all nationalities and all varieties – families, groups, couples, solo travellers – are welcome here, and you’re allowed to bring your dog along to join the fun too. There’s plenty of space for everyone to relax on the serviced pitches, and guests have access to handy facilities including drinking water, clean toilets and hot showers. As for catering, you have a choice between dining at the restaurant (which serves traditional Albanian dishes and other meals throughout the day) and cooking your own at the barbecue area. A small shop stocks the essentials for those choosing to self cater, and there are supplies of fresh bread available every morning for a good, hearty breakfast.

Local attractions

Attractions in the Valbona Valley National Park include woodland paths, the 17-kilometre Valbona–Theth trail (which starts a five-minute drive from the site and leads past several spectacular viewpoints) and the Rrogami Waterfall, which tumbles down a vertical rock face. Follow the Valbona River to the east for a swim in the crystal-clear waters of Xhemës Lake (five minutes’ drive). If you keep going, you’ll come across natural pools, waterfalls and dramatic landscapes where the river has carved its way through the rocks, such as at Shtrejt Bridge (half an hour). The lush hills on the outskirts of Deçan (an hour and a half), in neighbouring Kosovo, are home to natural pools, monasteries and a climbing route (the Via Ferrata Deçani), with spectacular views over a rocky gorge.
