General

  • Glamping on a working organic farm in the Welsh Marches
  • In an area of wildlife watching, pony trekking and mountain biking
  • Pods with electricity, heating and free wifi

Powys Pods is a rural retreat on a working organic hill farm in the Welsh marches, opened in July 2013 and set up to provide an alternative to traditional camping experience without losing the back-to-nature appeal popular with so many.

The site is in a popular spot for walkers, pony trekkers, mountain bikers, birdwatchers, astronomers and those who just want to enjoy the peace of the countryside. Evenings can be spent relaxing, cooking up a feast on the barbecue or roasting marshmallows around the bonfire pit, all among spectacular sunsets over the valley or bright stars in the clear skies ahead (look up during the day to see if you're lucky enough to spot a red kite). And with no phone reception on site, quiet holidays are practically guaranteed...

The pods have electricity, heating and free wifi. Camp beds can be hired from the Powys Pods team.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

As the farm dogs are working dogs, they aren't usually kept on a lead. However, if you'd prefer not to meet the dogs, please let the site know in advance and the owners will do their very best to keep them away from the accommodation area (although this can't be guaranteed). Please note, there may be other dogs on the farm too.

The two resident dogs will be protective of their territory around other dogs, and will bark initially. You must leave your dog in the car when you arrive, so that the owners can introduce the dogs in a controlled manner.

Please bring a bed or mat for your dog to sit/sleep on in the pod.

All visiting dogs must be wormed within three weeks of your stay at the site, using a wormer that contains Praziquantel (to eradicate tapeworm); details will be discussed with you before your arrival.

Bookings of three or more adults between the age of 18 and 29 are not allowed.

Thanks for your review - and for staying with us for so many nights! I'm afraid that we cannot do much about the narrow roads and the council's maintenance, but we do offer alternative parking for motorcycles. The cattle-grid has not been mentioned by previous motorcyclists, but we shall certainly bear it in mind. I'm glad that you were able to make use of our indoor seating area during the typical camping weather in the first part of your stay, and we are planning to add boarding to the facilities area to improve shelter from the wind - although it will be at the cost of the view!

Great site, helpful staff, beautiful scenery, cosy pod...Winner. 18/08/2017

The campsite is set in the beautiful Welsh hills on a working farm. The views do not disappoint - it is a view that we could never get bored of. We even managed to catch a sunset despite being in the valley. At night and with good weather the stars are incredible. If like us you live in the city then being able to see the milky way is mind blowing - definitely worth staying out for!

We stayed in Ardwyn pod which is in its own field at the top of the farm up a set of steps. It was quiet and peaceful - exactly what we needed. The pod itself is well built, warm and well thought out. It has good under bunk storage, plenty of electrical outlets and cleaning supplies to keep the pod tidy. In our welcome pack there was plenty of information about the local area and things to do - so handy when you know next to nothing about the area. We spent 4 very cosy nights in our little pod and loved it :)

The campsite facilities area is really good. There is a covered cooking/washing/seating area to escape the rain overlooking the valley complete with a small supply of electrical hobs and a toaster if you forget to bring them. If like us you are staying in Ardwyn then there is plenty of space to set up stoves and tables like we did (when it didn't rain) but you will still need to make a trip to wash up. The shower rooms and toilets are clean and there are drying facilities should you need to dry anything which gets wet. A fridge and freezer is also provided which is super handy.

    Disliked:

It would be helpful to have toilet facilities a little closer to Ardwyn. It is a little bit of a walk up and down the stairs particularly at night but this certainly wasn't a deal breaker. The other pods however are closer to the facilities.

The wifi is good but a limited compared to urban areas. But hopefully no one is staying for the internet when there is so much natural beauty around :)

A hidden gem 27/07/2017

We were looking for a campsite to stay in for an overnight before the Royal Welsh Show. Being last minute we weren't hopeful, and we were right, not a campsite in site.

By chance, we found Powys Pods and ummed and ahhed about leaving our beloved tent behind and having a 'glamp' instead.

We were NOT dissapointed! Powys Pods is a beautiful, secluded site (we knew we were going to have some peace and quiet after we rumbled over a good few cattle grids and dropped out of sight).

We were able to park up and empty our bits and bobs no more than 40 steps to our pod.

The shower/loo blocks are spanking clean and undercover, hot water and lots of cooking facilities from small hobs to a BBQ.

The pod itself (we stayed in Allt Dderw) was the perfect size for the two of us, our camping mats, mounds of duvets and pillows and all of our bags. The little veranda is great for sitting out and enjoying the view, naming the sheep and drinking wine.

We can't wait to come back, thank you for a fantastic, relaxing stay.

Lovely peaceful place, surrounded by beautiful scenery and the sound of the birds and farm animals. Fab facilities. Loved the hot showers and heaters in the bathrooms and the WiFi is a God send when the weather is bad! Nice little grassed area for the kids to play while you sit on the porch wildlife watching or with a beer and a book! Great for local walks over the hills. Jess is really friendly and helped me out with a dehumidifier when trying to get the kids soaking wet clothes dry for which I'll be eternally grateful...thank you Jess!

    Disliked:

Rained for most of our time there so had to drive 40 mins to a soft play, not much for kids to do when the weather is as wet as it was. Also the hotplate isn't much use as in it took nearly an hour to boil spaghetti so dont plan your cooking around it like i did. Luckily the people in the next pod kindly lent me their gas cooker for my sausages although there is always the bbq if you want to fire that up.

From the manager...

Thanks for your review - I wish the weather had been better for you! I'm going to make the dehumidifier more available for the drying room so that people can use it easily on occasions such as your, especially as it worked so well. It sounds like the hot plate isn't functioning as it should - I will investigate.
