General

  • Glamping on a working organic farm in the Welsh Marches
  • In an area of wildlife watching, pony trekking and mountain biking
  • Pods with electricity, heating and free wifi

Powys Pods is a rural retreat on a working organic hill farm in the Welsh marches, opened in July 2013 and set up to provide an alternative to traditional camping experience without losing the back-to-nature appeal popular with so many.

The site is in a popular spot for walkers, pony trekkers, mountain bikers, birdwatchers, astronomers and those who just want to enjoy the peace of the countryside. Evenings can be spent relaxing, cooking up a feast on the barbecue or roasting marshmallows around the bonfire pit, all among spectacular sunsets over the valley or bright stars in the clear skies ahead (look up during the day to see if you're lucky enough to spot a red kite). And with no phone reception on site, quiet holidays are practically guaranteed...

The pods have electricity, heating and free wifi. Camp beds can be hired from the Powys Pods team.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

As the farm dogs are working dogs, they aren't usually kept on a lead. However, if you'd prefer not to meet the dogs, please let the site know in advance and the owners will do their very best to keep them away from the accommodation area (although this can't be guaranteed). Please note, there may be other dogs on the farm too.

The two resident dogs will be protective of their territory around other dogs, and will bark initially. You must leave your dog in the car when you arrive, so that the owners can introduce the dogs in a controlled manner.

Please bring a bed or mat for your dog to sit/sleep on in the pod.

All visiting dogs must be wormed within three weeks of your stay at the site, using a wormer that contains Praziquantel (to eradicate tapeworm); details will be discussed with you before your arrival.

Bookings of three or more adults between the age of 18 and 29 are not allowed.

We thoroughly loved our pod and it was a time to forget about reality of life and that's exactly what we did.
My partner enjoyed his father's day/night.
Great place with great staff and clean facilities.
    The view was spectacular.

The pod was nice and the facilities eg. Shower , fire pit etc were also very good. Ardwen pod was especially nice and secluded.

    Disliked:

Signage to the site was poor but directions were given via email and easy to follow. Dogs were not friendly and were intimidating(growling and barking whenever you go near them) . We felt uncomfatable to go to the fridge/freezer section as this is where they are kept so we avoided it completely when the dogs were there which is during the day. Wouldn’t advise taking your own dogs, it is stated as dog friendly but we didn’t get that vibe at all and didn’t feel comfortable with our dog being anywhere near the farm dogs.

From the manager...

Thanks for your review. The dogs are extremely friendly, but as our Dog Policy states, they will bark at another dog (as a lot of dogs do) who is visiting. The dogs are only here when I'm working (although there are other farm dogs too), and come home with me when I leave. We introduced our younger dog to yours without any issues, but I think you returned during the day when I was elsewhere, and perhaps they barked when they saw your dog. We also say in our check-in form to let us know if anyone has a dog phobia so that we can keep the dogs away from the campsite.

Beautiful location! We loved waking up to the beautiful lambs and what a fantastic view! So peaceful! The pod and bathroom area were absolutely spotless and excellent facilities in the outside area including a barbecue, seats and sink / running tap.

    Disliked:

We struggled to find the pods from the centre of Hay as it was very remote.
We couldn’t get phone signal should an emergency have occurred and there was nobody onsite.

From the manager...

Thank you for sharing your lovely photos. We provide detailed directions on how to find us, and provide an emergency phone in the house porch for use in emergencies (although there is some phone signal now on the EE network) as well as contact numbers for getting in touch :)

Peaceful, beautiful, clean facilities with nice extras such as the fire pit/bbq, electric cooking rings. Views were amazing, and the sheep neighbours were quiet at night. Loved it. Just what we wanted

    Disliked:

No dislikes at all but signage from the main road may be a good idea. Sat nav malfunction and trying to find/read directions was tricky with no passenger.

The facilities were very clean and pleasant, with heaters in the showers area which were very welcomed in the month of October! The pods were everything we could ask for. We were extremely pleased with the whole experience. We went horse riding at the farm which is literally next door and had a great time. Beautiful area with lots of pretty walks.
