  • Quiet rural site on a working farm 15 minutes’ drive from Usk
  • A 15-minute drive from the Offa’s Dyke Path; access to Cycle Route 42
  • Firepit provided, with logs and charcoal for sale
If you’ve ever thought about life on a quiet farm, get your taster at Fallowview Campsite. This peaceful site has gorgeous views over the Monmouthshire countryside, as well as views of Abergavenny (to the north), the Severn estuary (to the south), the Black Mountains, the Skirrid and the Graig. That might leave you pondering: ‘Where exactly is this place?’. To be precise, Fallowview Campsite is in a gorgeous hamlet, 15 minutes’ drive away from Chepstow and Usk (home to a mighty-fine salmon fishing river, an 11th-century castle and a town trail). If hiking or cycling is your go-to hobby, never fear… Cycle Route 42 passes right by the gate at the site’s drive. The Offa’s Dyke Path is 15 minutes’ drive away too, a 177-mile route laid down by King Offa back in the 8th century. Just get back in time for sundown over the firepit provided on site. Logs and charcoal are available should you decide to cook alfresco style. When it comes to other facilities, there’s a portable toilet and a summerhouse with running water, electricity and a fridge.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked On arriving was welcomed by owners and showed us around the small set up. Explained were washing up facilities were and were we could get hot water for a cup of tea and showed us were the toilet was. Mentioned if we were cold to sit in the cafe over night. We could pick our camping pitch and there was a fire pit if we wanted to use it. There was a very well kept farm shop with so many cakes lovely set up for a short stay or weekend away .

Disliked Nothing would have stayed longer if we could have .

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The owners are really kind and the facilities are clean

Disliked The campsite is next to the A48. Difficult to sleep with the noise of the cars circulating the whole night and day.

From the manager: Newchurch Campsite is situated on a very quiet country lane approximately 7 mile away from the A48. We are certainly not subjected to noise. In fact the other campers we had in the same evening only commented how lovely and peaceful it was!

Liked I was made welcome from the second I arrived to the second I left. Peaceful setting, great view from the farm across the countryside.

Birdsong and sunsets were beautiful

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The hosts were exceptional and accommodating. They allowed us the use of the indoor area as it was raining for 12 hours solid and the kitchen to make hot drinks. The site was immaculate and very pretty, very friendly dog and use of an indoor toilet.

Disliked Not much to dislike really.

Beautiful farm shop, well maintained , quiet, cheap.…

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful farm shop, well maintained , quiet, cheap.

Disliked No pub close by. Not a lot close by actually. The toilet is in the family farmhouse so u feel like you’re intruding when you use it. It actually felt like we had pitched a tent in someone’s back garden and we was intruding there space. It’s in the middle of nowhere. It said that there would be a free firepit to use so we took our own wood. After asking twice and tbf the owners said they couldn’t find it. That was disappointing.

Local attractions

Since you’ll be in a rural spot already, it only makes sense that Raglan Farm Park (15 minutes’ drive) might be one of your first port of calls. The kids are likely to love this one, with bouncy castles, a sand pit and farm animals all around. From the furry or woolly things to the more historic, next up on your itinerary might be the medieval Raglan Castle (20 minutes) or the ruins of Tintern Abbey (15 minutes) in the Wye Valley. There’s a castle in Chepstow (15 minutes) for those who want to continue their historical tour, or else, look around the tunnels and grottoes that were built under the Dewstow Gardens & Grottoes (15 minutes) in the mid 20th century. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, get out to Abergavenny (35 minutes) and make your break into the mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park from there.
