Open only to members of the Caravan and Motorhome Club, Hen Wen Caravan Site Certificated Location is a relaxed sort of place with views over Anglesey countryside to Cemaes Bay (you can watch spectacular sunsets over the water on clear evenings) and the peaks of Eryri National Park on the horizon. It’s also 20 minutes by bike from the historic copper mines at Parys Mountain, one of the island’s biggest visitor attractions. Set on a peaceful smallholding surrounded by over 4,000 trees, the site offers a relaxed countryside escape while still having modern conveniences such as well-maintained showers and loos. It is both family- and dog-friendly, with lots of space for kids and their four-legged pals to run around, explore and play safely. If you don’t feel like cooking, the local pub is less than five minutes’ stroll down the road, serving home-cooked food, hot drinks and real ales. There’s also a small basics store at Llanfechell (10 minutes’ drive) if you need a quick stock up on essentials.

Local attractions

Newborough Forest (45 minutes’ drive) is a haven for walkers with views to Eryri National Park in the distance, and there are bracing strolls to be had along Cemaes Bay (15 minutes). Cyclists get a look in too; they can pedal sections of the Round Anglesey Route from Amlwch (20 minutes by bike), or for longer days in the saddle, the National Cycle Route 8 heads across the Four Mile Bridge (an hour and a half) to Holyhead Island. You might also like to try the Lôn Lâs Copr Cycle Route, which takes you to Parys Mountain (20 minutes), an intriguing and sprawling area of rust-stained rocky landscapes left behind from a copper mine that dates back 4,000 years. From the surfing beach at Rhosneigr to the butterfly house at Pili Palas Nature World (both half an hour’s drive) or boat trips out to Puffin Island from Beaumaris (35 minutes), there is plenty for families to do. Younger kids will hopefully love the bunny rabbits and tractor rides at Foel Farm Park (45 minutes), and you can all explore the countryside on horseback from Anglesey Riding Centre (40 minutes).
