3 bedroom static caravan

Liked Lovely peaceful site in the countryside. Occasional traffic noise but did not bother us. Could fit two seats out on the side decking. Decent shower and comfy bed.

Disliked No heating!!!! We froze on the first night but then went out and bought a heater. Uncomfy seating but used our folding chairs.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We are pleased you described our site as 'lovely and peaceful' and enjoyed certain aspects of our facilities. We hope you liked the view while sitting on the side decking, and you could have also used the grass area by the caravan if you wanted to. We are sorry to hear you felt cold on your first night. In the static, there is a fixed gas fire in the lounge and we also left an additional portable electric fire for your use, especially as at the time of your stay it was particularly cold. Extra blankets, in the bedroom cupboards, are provided. Regarding the seating, it is the standard design for this type of static caravan and we are sorry you found this uncomfortable. We want our guests to be completely relaxed and really enjoy their stay with us. We would have gladly provided another additional heater straight away to save you buying one.

Liked Easy booking, and communication with the owner. Great location, and easily accessible while still being peaceful. Well looked after statics. Accessible walking to Offa's Dyke path and Hay itself. Children's play area (field) was great. Information provided at beginning of stay was spot on. Responded swiftly to queries once on site.

3 bedroom static caravan

Liked -Owners seemed lovely
-Facilities are spotless
-Great walks nearby
-Lovely campsite

Disliked When we arrived we were asked if we had bed sheets for our caravan stay. We missed this info as it's tucked away on the pitchup website, it said to bring your own sheets which took quite a while to find, and wasn't in the confirmation email.

The owner apologised as he didn't send out a message which he said he usually does, and there was nothing in the email or main points about this. I wouldn't usually mind but the cost of hiring the sheets was quoted as £50-£70 which seems incredibly high for a hidden charge. It doesn't even mention the price of this extra on the pitchup website.

It's a real shame and wasn't a great start to the holiday. The couple seemed lovely and were really apologetic, but it's a huge charge to drop on people and I feel the charge at least needs to be listed on pitchup or the email.

As a result I don't think we could go back again. What I'd hope is the owners make that charge explicit and very obvious. At the very least include it in the booking email, so that others don't have the experience we had.

A few other people have mentioned the road noise. You can hear the road which didn't bother us but worth noting if that might bother you.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and kind comments regarding your stay and our site. We are sorry about the misunderstanding regarding the bed linen. However, when booking with Pitchup, on the main booking page for the 3 bedroom static caravan, it says in 2 places about the bed linen- it says 'Please bring your own towels and bed linen' and then further down the page under Other restrictions, it says ' Bed linen not provided'. We do not feel this is 'tucked away'.
It is not a hidden charge as we do not supply bed linen for bookings of 3 nights, so this is not an extra and so is not mentioned on Pitchup.
We are sorry you did not read/notice that bed linen is not included when booking your stay. As you had no bed linen with you, we kindly supplied it, obviously at a cost. We're sorry if it 'took quite a while to find', but we were not prepared for this extra work as we thought you would have read the relevant information. Customers usually bring their own bed-linen- bottom sheet, duvet covers and pillowcases or pillowcases and sleeping bags if they prefer. We pride ourselves on our excellent review ratings and it is disappointing that you have given us 6/10 because of the misunderstanding from not reading all the booking information. We are also sorry that you are unable to recommend us to friends or return to our site.

I’d recommend to anybody, very easy access to local towns.

Liked Very welcoming, although we had booked a static caravan with a toilet and shower, with five adults, we were told we were free to use the main block for both toilets and showers which was definitely the cleanest such facility I have ever used!

What customers say

This is a highly recommended, immaculately clean site with stunning views of the Black Mountains. Guests consistently praise the friendly and exceptionally helpful owner, James, and the well-maintained, spacious pitches. A picturesque walk through fields and along the river leads directly to Hay-on-Wye. Facilities, particularly showers and toilets, are repeatedly described as spotless. Road noise is occasionally mentioned but rarely detracts from the peaceful atmosphere.

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked Great location, fantastic views!
Wonderful hosts, James spent a good few minutes explaining everything and even showing us a walking route into Hay on Wye, along with checking in now and again throughout our stay to make sure everything was ok - lovely people and so hospitable.
The pitch was generously sized and we had no problem getting set up.
The overall site is immaculate, with great care taken to keep high standards, whether that's from the beautiful plants and flowers or simply keeping the shower block clean and tidy - it's wonderful, quiet and relaxing.
We'll definitely be back!

Local attractions

Head to Hay for books, books and more books, and pub lunches/dinners in sunny beer gardens or indoors by roaring fires. The famed Hay Festival runs for 10 days each late May/early June; also in the area, check out the Brecon Jazz Festival at Brecon (20 minutes' drive) in August and Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells (25 minutes) in July, the biggest agricultural show in the world. Heading outdoors, the Black Mountains, Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons National Park are beacons for those who like tramping around the outdoors: there are way too many activities and options to list here, but popular options include cycling, pony trekking, golfing, climbing, canoeing, potholing, whitewater rafting, fishing... Over the border, Herefordshire and the Golden Valley, in the lee of the Black Mountains, also have quite the pile going on, and amid similarly splendid scenery too. Visit Arthur's Stone (20 minutes) if you'd like to see what a neolithic burial chamber looks like after 5,000 or so years (pretty well preserved is the answer), or head on to Hereford (half an hour) for museums, the cathedral and tasty foodie/drinkie pickings.
