  • Off-grid pop-up bordering the River Severn at Caerhowel in Mid Wales
  • Montgomery Castle five minutes’ drive; Offa’s Dyke Path 20 minutes
  • Wild swimming and walks along the river; pub five minutes’ stroll
Wild Lion Camping is a splendidly wild sort of spot welcoming everybody to a spacious camping field in a tiny village called Caerhowel in Mid Wales. The pitches are sheltered by mature trees, and the River Severn runs past the meadow. This simple and peaceful pop-up site is both family- and dog-friendly, and the owners encourage ball games, swimming in the river, campfires and long waterside walks with any accompanying canines. If you’re looking for a bit more of a challenge, the long-distance Offa’s Dyke Path is 20 minutes’ drive away. If, on the other hand, you’re intent on kicking back and putting your feet up on site, it’s always good to know that there’s a family-run pub right next door to the pitches, just in case you feel like a crafty pint – they do evening meals and takeaways too. There’s also a brewery in Montgomery (five minutes’ drive), open for sampling and buying craft beer. Please be aware that there are no showers, running water or electricity on site, so do come prepared to be self sufficient.
