  • Eco-friendly pop-up site in the Brecon Beacons National Park
  • An easy 10-minute walk from Crickhowell; Raglan 25 minutes' drive
  • Lovely mountain views; access to canalside walks and bike rides
A Powys pop-up site where you can park the car and then spend your days exploring on foot? That’s the deal at Camp Crick, in the gorgeous Usk Valley 10 minutes’ stroll from the pretty and historic market town of Crickhowell. The views from here are fine indeed – the site looks out at the Sugar Loaf and Table Mountain, with Llangattock Mountain behind. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal runs past the fields too, for easy access to miles of safe cycling and walking along the towpath. For more walking options there are plenty of trails that lead off up into the mountains (see if you can find the very rare floating bog below the escarpment on Llangattock Mountain…) The car’s unlikely to see much action at all around here, in fact – that proximity to town means that you can easily walk to Crickhowell’s independent shops, cafés and pubs (and in fact there are a couple of pubs offering great food even closer in the village of Llangattock). Naturally, the team here have an interest in preserving this pretty part of the world, so they’ve set the site up as an eco-friendly off-grid place to stay. Generously sized pitches are tucked away within the hedges and well spaced so you’ll have plenty of room to soak up the surrounds and look out for the wildlife (resident tawny owls and buzzards are often seen, along with a wide range of songbirds). Facilities include compost loos (with biodegradable loo roll provided), cold showers and washing-up stations using spring water (you’ll need to boil it before drinking). There’s no parking by pitches (in order to preserve the peace and the wild flowers), but trailers and wheelbarrows are provided to haul your kit.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Was such a peaceful site. We went for 2 nights and honestly could have stayed longer. The hosts were super helpful throughout our stay. We loved the fact that we were cut into the hedge line so each pitch had their own privacy but also that there was no cars through the site, they did offer to ‘ferry’ your stuff over on a trailer they had which was helpful.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked What a wonderful place, feel so lucky we found it.

Called the owner as requested on arrival, and the most welcoming family turned up within seconds. Showed us to our pitch and genuinely couldn’t do enough for us. Had some fire wood from the owners, however ran out middle of the evening. Again within seconds our bucket was full again!

Beautiful location, with the best of both worlds. An easy 10 minute walk and you’re in the town centre with plenty of shops and friendly local pubs. Get back to the site however, and you feel you are really out in the countryside with the most stunning views.

Facilities are very basic as stated, however immaculately clean. Even the compost toilet doesn’t smell! The cold showers might put some off, but as the signs say “embrace it” and you’ll be surprised how great you feel after.

If you’re looking for a quiet relaxing spot, within easy walking distance of a lovely Welsh town, look no further!

Diolch yn fawr iawn!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Friendly welcome was great and I found the site as close to wild camping as you can get in this type of setting. I thought it was really well laid out, creating secluded zones for each tent. I'll definitely be back.

Non-electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked The views are stunning, with both the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains in plain view. Just 15 mins walk into Crickhowell via footpaths and the very cute bridge over the River Usk. Camping ground is lovely, with plenty of space, fire pits, compostable toilet, accessible fresh water (drinking) water with 2 pubs in the village of Llangattock (offering food).
Hosts are super friendly and on hand for enquiries and needs.
Reasonably dark skies if you like stargazing, with plenty of nature to be found along the river path and the Brecon Canal towpath, all moments away.
Simply delightful!

Disliked Nothing to dislike.
