  • Welcoming wild camping site in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park
  • Two miles to a trail up Pen y Fan; Four Waterfalls a half-hour drive
  • Meadow pitches with on-site walks; home-cooked meals on Friday night
Ca’s Camping is in pole position for anyone keen to get out and about in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (formerly the Brecon Beacons). Situated on the edge of the mountains, with glorious views right from your tent, this is wild camping in a peaceful, flat meadow on an organic farm with dairy cows, free-range hens and ponies. The dogs get to come on your Welsh adventure too (on leads please), and you can exercise them in the designated 2.5-acre meadow adjoining the camping field, which has a stream running through the middle for family splashings around. A 10-minute walk in woodland takes you to waterfalls on a tributary of the Tarrell River. Pick up barbecue supplies from handy supermarkets in Brecon (10 minutes’ drive, check out the historic cathedral too), where there are also masses of pubs, fish and chip shops and takeaways for those nights when no-one wants to cook. If you’re staying on a Friday night, eat on site at Ca’s Citchen, when the owner cooks a tasty farmhouse supper (with dessert) made from locally sourced produce. Eat outside under the pergola or take your food back to your pitch. On Saturday evenings, weather permitting, guests can also join Ca for a food experience in the woodland near waterfalls. Simple site facilities include a toilet and shower block (installed for the 2025 season), a washing-up area and rubbish recycling points. An added bonus is the standpipes providing drinking water straight from a spring in the mountains.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Wide open field so ample room to pitch up with out being on top of the tent next to you. Nice clean toilet blocks aswell. Ground was reasonably flat. So made for pitching up a lot nicer. Although it rained on our stay vehicles had no problems with getting stuck on the grass

Disliked: Showers are limited

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Good well kept site. 40-45 minute walk to Brecon centre. Good facilities with nice water pressure. Quiet site with nice views.

Disliked: Bin area had small bags so constantly over flowing and thats without the site looking full. Only two toilets and 1 shower in the mens for the whole site. Could see this being an issue if busier.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Loved having the freedom of where to pitch ( apart from the last day someone pitched up only a couple of meters away from us when the field had so many empty spots) 🤦🏻‍♀️ Toilets were very clean, good recyclable system. Owner was very friendly and helpful he was around multiple times in the day, he delivered wood if needed too which seemed a really good idea, and in a nice location with lovely views. Washing up station was a nice touch and huge bonus was we had brilliant signal 😂

Disliked: The only thing I would suggest would be to have a bag for general waste aswell as the recycling as some people left bags on the floor due to not having general waste. Could do with ladies sanitary bins in the toilets and the ladies toilet block leaked quite a lot pretty bad, not sure if this was from the shower but was big puddles every day of our stay- wasn’t a huge issue just had to tread carefully so your shoes didn’t get soaked!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Friendly atmosphere, large mainly flat field, new toilets and shower, clean and great location within walking distance of Brecon.

Disliked: When busy, can be a little wait for the shower as only one for each sex (and that’s 2 for those not sure) 😁

Liked: Loved the location of the site, very peaceful with well maintained level pitches, clean facilities with hot showers, friendly owner, great spot for getting into the hills and only a short drive to town centre. No light pollution so great for star gazing. Fresh spring water on tap. A great little getaway.

Local attractions

The site is actually in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, so lots of hiking and cycling will probably be on the cards. You can start on the trail up Pen y Fan (two miles’ walk from site) for spectacular views over mountain ridges to the horizon. Another classic local yomp leads up to the Four Waterfalls (half an hour’s drive); get more outdoor inspiration from the National Park Visitor Centre (15 minutes). When something less hardcore is required, pedal or stroll along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal (10 minutes); otherwise there’s a golf course within five minutes’ drive and an indoor pool at Brecon Leisure Centre (10 minutes) – a handy diversion for any rainy days. Younger kids will doubtless love meeting all the cuddly animals at Cantref Adventure Farm, while teens can hone their off-roading skills at BattleMX (both 15 minutes). The National Showcaves Centre for Wales (25 minutes) is another great option for family days out, with its subterranean tours, dinosaur walks and recreated Iron Age village.
