The 'caban' where guests can relax, eat and drink or just sit and read a book

  • Single cosy shepherds' hut for two with views towards Cardigan Bay
  • A short walk to Wales Coast Path; 10 minutes' drive to New Quay
  • Kingsize bed, ensuite bathroom and private outdoor space with firepit
Cwtch up with your beloved in the Ceredigion countryside – the smart shepherd’s hut at Llainfran Holidays is an adults-only glamping unit that’s just made for a cosy break for two (although you’d also be very welcome to book a solo trip for some well-earned ‘me time’). The single shepherd’s hut here goes by the name of Cynefin, a Welsh word that means ‘a place where a person feels they belong; where the nature around them feels right’. It’s a spirit that certainly sings through in this sweet little hut, which has been designed to provide a comfortable and relaxing experience both indoors and out. Inside the hut, the open-plan space has a kingsize bed, a mini kitchen and an ensuite shower room, and it’s all kept nice and cosy by the underfloor heating. Peek out of the window or door and you’ll note that there are gorgeous views across the farm towards Cardigan Bay – and you’ll really be able to soak up all that scenery in your private outdoor area, which has seating, a firepit and a cute little ‘caban’ with a covered cooking and dining area. As well as being a lovely spot for some relaxation and romance, this place is very well located for getting out to explore the Ceredigion coastline – it’s just a short walk from the hut to the Wales Coast Path, where you may be able to spot the dolphins that reside in the bay. If not, head on up to New Quay (10 minutes’ drive), where dolphin-spotting boat trips leave from the harbour throughout the day.

Local attractions

A walk on part of the Wales Coast Path is a must, whether you’re in the mood for a long hike or just a short stroll to see what kind of marine and bird life you can spot. There are lots of great sections to choose from along this stretch of coast, or you could just head directly to a local beach such as Cwmtydu Cove (five minutes’ drive), Llangrannog (15 minutes) or Tresaith (20 minutes). Heading north instead, New Quay (10 minutes) is another must, for the dolphin-spotting boat trips that take you out in search of Britain’s largest resident population of the marine mammals. Aberaeron (20 minutes), with its colourful seafront houses, is another popular spot, or you could turn a little way inland to visit National Trust – Llanerchaeron (25 minutes) with its ornamental gardens and John Nash-designed villa. Other local sights worth seeking out include Cenarth Falls or the grand castle in Cardigan (half an hour), a lovely town with good riverside walks and lots of great places to eat and shop.
