  • Well-maintained family-friendly site just off the A487 at Llanon
  • A 10-minute drive to Aberaeron and 25 minutes to Aberystwyth
  • A short walk to a shingle beach and the Ceredigion Coast Path
What a gorgeous location for a break close to the Ceredigion coast. Family-run Woodlands Holiday Park is in a very handy spot just off the A487 (the main road running along the west coast of Wales) and about half a mile from Llanon village centre (home to a pub, a butcher, a convenience store, a fish and chip shop and bus stops for jaunts by public transport). And that’s just the practical side of things, because this lovely location is also just a few minutes’ walk from the coast for a shingle beach and access to the Ceredigion Coast Path. There are lots more walks to be had in the surrounding area as well, and plenty more excellent coastal spots to explore – Aberaeron (10 minutes’ drive) and Aberystwyth (25 minutes) are a couple of the top picks, along with New Quay (20 minutes), where you can catch a boat for a dolphin-spotting trip. So that’s the location, but what about the park? Well, it’s a well-maintained and peaceful place with a good list of useful facilities including a launderette, a washing-up area and bathrooms with toilets and showers. Dogs and kids are both welcome, and guests are allowed to bring along a barbecue for a bit of alfresco cookery.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely campsite! Spacious pitches, clean facilities, easy to find and quiet. Walking distance to Llanon with a very nice pub and walking distance to the sea. Easy access to buses too.
Definitely recommend! Loved our stay there!

Disliked Nothing. Unfortunately the tide was too far out so not able to have a dip in the sea but that's not the campsite's fault :-)

Electric grass pitch

Liked Out of the way and peaceful, great to have a midday check in and out, 5 minute walk to a pebble beach.

Disliked Water tap in a bit of tight spot to park a motorhome next too to fill up. Blocks the road a little.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked Everything, not helped by those who stay there long term pitches looking, let's say we'll and truly lived in, that aside I went to the wash room facilities to find the was room could do with a deep clean, a bit worn out with lots of human hair in the sink. We stayed an hour then left and parked up in a local view point for the night

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Our seasonal pitches are all kept clean and tidy and have also been praised by other visitors as being friendly and welcoming so we dispute your comments. There was a dirty touring caravan occupying a nightly pitch at the time of your visit so suspect your comments are referring to this booking. Unfortunately we have no control over this and they have now left the park. The toilets and showers are cleaned on a regular basis and checked constantly at our busiest time as we navigate the summer holidays. We are sorry you felt the need to leave after such a short period of time and had you of spoken to a member of staff at the time we would have done our best to rectify any cleanliness issues you found during your stay.

Booked on pitch up so didn’t think it would be so scruffy.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The showers and toilets were ok hense the 4 star

Disliked The site wasn’t kept well. The caravans that stayed on site were scruffy made the place look messy. No beach just huge rocks no dog walk apart from the lane to the beach. The house on entry was falling to bits. Reseption was just a desk with a bell. No tourist information. Didn’t like the site at all.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We have to dispute this review. We are located 5 minutes from Ceredigion costal path where you can walk your dog for miles along the grassy banks following the coast. Yes, the beach is a shingle beach, but when the tide is out you can walk along the sands. Reception has lots of tourist information leaflets along with a notice board with local tourist attraction information (the photo is in the park description), so not just a desk with a bell! As for the park looking scruffy with seasonal pitches, this is not the case, as you will see from the photos. The grass and hedges are kept tidy at all times and all of our regular customers are friendly and welcoming and keep their pitches tidy. At the time of your visit we did notice a camper staying who had a dirty touring caravan but unfortunately we have no control over this happening on the odd occation. The majority of our customers arrive with a clean and tidy caravan/motorhome.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Quiet site more or older generations

Disliked Someone complains about mess and it wasnt even mess it was a few kids toys out side our carvan and not everywhere

Bit out dated warm showers but clean

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We had several complaints all about the same pitch and we politely asked you to tidy up. Not 'just a few kids toys' it looked like a bomb had landed! Not everyone wants to look out over a messy pitch whilst trying to have a relaxing break. You positioned your tourer the wrong way round on the pitch and had your electric hook up cable dangling mid-air. (It was too short). We advise any camper to make sure they bring at least a 25metre hook up cable with them, so that it can be safely positioned. The majority of children who visit our park are well behaved and enjoy their time playing without causing any mess that offends other campers.

Local attractions

After visiting the beach and the independent shops of the harbour town of Aberaeron (10 minutes’ drive), head inland to National Trust - Llanerchaeron (20 minutes). Designed by John Nash (of Brighton’s Royal Pavilion fame), this Georgian villa includes a walled kitchen garden whose organically grown produce is for sale in the reception area. In Aberystwyth (25 minutes), take a long stroll from South Beach, past the promontory topped by the ruins of Castell Aberystwyth, to the Pier, which has an arcade, miniature bowling and private karaoke booths, plus plenty of benches to watch the sunset while eating fish and chips. Alternatively, catch the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway to the top of Constitution Hill for wide-ranging coastal views. Open from April to September, Cae Hir Gardens (25 minutes) is a dog-friendly spot with colourful wildflower meadows and log piles attracting bees and other insects. There’s also a nursery and a tea room serving home-baked goods.
