Walled garden area

  • Site inside a pretty Edwardian walled garden with a wild woodland area
  • A five-minute drive to Denholm and 15 minutes away from Jedburgh
  • Kitchen, wifi, indoor common areas, flower garden and games lawn
My, my is there much to see and do at Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping, a 500-acre site inside an Edwardian walled garden and woodland setting in the Teviot Valley Special Landscape Area of the Scottish Borders. At this pristine park, chances for walking, cycling and relaxing really are all around… Helping you with the restful element of your hol is the common Hub with its undercover courtyard and open fireplace (get wood from reception). When it comes to walking, that’s a cinch too as you can wander past pond terraces, a flower garden, games lawn and old orchard without setting foot off site; head to the wild wood edging the manicured landscape to see smaller animals like hare and shrew as well as bigger creatures such as the badger, fox, weasel, ferret and roe deer among the trees. If you’ve got your sights set on cycling, you can take on a 10-mile warm-up trail to Bonchester Bridge (almost seven miles away) from the park and return via the other side of the Rare valley. Mountain bikers can head to the summit of Ruberslaw or over the hill and through the woods, and the Jeddart Justice Trail is within easy access for keen riders too. When back on base after muddy escapades make a beeline for the boot-washing facilities to get cleaned up then pick up local produce like burgers, bacon and sausages from the on-site shop to cook in one of the firebowls. You could also head over to Denholm (just over a five-minute drive away) and refuel at one of the two pubs, Italian restaurant or café. A well-equipped kitchen is also on site for making meals; other amenities include showers, toilets and washing areas with underfloor heating.

What customers say

This campsite is highly recommended for its beautiful surroundings and excellent facilities, including a well-equipped communal hub with kitchens and clean showers. Visitors praise the friendly and helpful staff, spacious pitches, and the option of both civilised walled garden camping and a more wild woodland experience. Families found it perfect for children, with plenty of space to explore. Minor drawbacks included occasional noise from glass recycling and potential for pitches to feel close together when busy.

Woodland 2 bedroom safari tent (four person)

Liked Tent was amazing, loads of room. Really well stocked with everything you'd need, cozy beds, gas burner, plenty of blankets and hot water bottles. The sitting area was protected from the elements and fire pit made for a great night's stay.

Plenty of space between us and the next tent area made for a really private area of our own.

The staff were really helpful and friendly and couldn't help more. Will definitely be going back

Walled Garden non-electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked There is a special feel to the walled garden. Lovely, generous grass pitches and space to wander around like the Lord of the manor. Very nice attention to detail at the Hub, fully equipped kitchen, large open fire for colder evenings, seating under cover, clean toilets and showers.
It was surprisingly quiet with not even half of the pitches occupied. In August.
We also had a nosy at the glamping "tents", set hidden in the woods. Very cool, tamed wilderness experience with no hassel. It's perfect as introduction to camping and remote locations, I can see my city friends being happy there.
Walking up the nearby hill Rubers Law is a pleasant outing of about two to three hours. The views are fantastic, take a picnic!

Disliked We would have liked to buy the local applejuice but the shop was closed in the morning.
The luggage trolleys are a bit lopsided, which leads to general amusement when people place bets on it toppling over.
And just maybe the toilet capacity would be tight if all pitches were booked?
And the pitches get allocated, which is fine, but if they are not all occupied I would probably give people more space and leave pitches in between free. Instead we were all camped cosily together.

Walled Garden non-electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked I felt really safe, it was my first time solo camping, as well as my dog's! So I wasn't sure how it would go for either of us.

I needn't have worried, even with some very rainy weather we both had a brilliant time, my pitch was secluded away which I was very grateful for but close to the facilities so trips over didn't mean trekking past other campers. Facilities were spotless, staff were brilliant and clearly taking care of both campers and the gardens and the thought that the site has put into making it easy to set up and have a nice time was really clear.

Other campers were respectful of the quiet times and it all had a nice atmosphere.

We'll be back again for sure!! Thank you all for a lovely first time camping!

Disliked Nothing it was great, even pitched in very wet weather!

Walled Garden non-electric grass tent pitch (small)

Liked I thought the facilities were outstanding. Showers, toilets, wi-fi, phone recharging, sinks, kettles, fridge etc. The surrounding woodland area was nice.

Disliked You should probably secure your dog with a dog lead stake or the camp manager will get rather dramatic and claim that you are frightening the children. No matter how cute & gentle your dog is
