  • Cosy and luxurious cabins in the north of Cairngorms National Park
  • Glenlivet Distillery five minutes' drive; mountain bike trails 10 mins
  • Private outdoor space for each cabin, with firepit and open-air bath
Fancy a cosy cabin in the Cairngorms for your next break? That’s exactly the enticing setup that’s on offer at The Dell at Glenlivet. Up at the northern end of the Cairngorms National Park between Ballindalloch and Tomintoul, this is a place where you can immerse yourselves in the fabulous nature of the Highlands while also keeping all your creature comforts at the luxury accommodation. And what nature it is around here, with over 50 acres of ancient birch woodland on site, plus stunning views (particularly from the higher parts of the property) to the hills and rivers of the landscapes beyond. You’re very welcome to take a stroll around the woods on site, and there are many more miles of trails in the local area too – plus mountain biking, horse riding, gorge walking, canoeing and a whole swathe of other outdoor pursuits. Castles, quiet villages and, of course, whisky distilleries are also easy to get to if you fancy something a little more leisurely. Back on site, the cabins have been well spaced around the property to ensure plenty of peace and privacy for all guests – and they’ve been placed in thoughtfully chosen spots with lovely views of the surrounding landscape too. In your own private outdoor space you’ll be able to serve up alfresco meals on the dining table, flop on the sofa in front of the woodburning stove or take a special scenic soak in the open-air bath. Heading back inside, each cabin has a kingsize bed, heating, an ensuite bathroom and a mini kitchen for prepping meals, snacks and drinks.

Local attractions

If you’ve come across the name Glenlivet before, it’s probably because of the whisky – and that comes from the distillery about five minutes’ drive away. There are various tours and tastings on offer here, or you can just stop in for a dram or cocktail in the cosy bar. If you’re really into your whisky, you can also drop in on several other Speyside distilleries around the area. Want to work up a thirst for your tipple? Take your mountain bike to the downhill trails at Bike Glenlivet (10 minutes’ drive), play a round at Ballindalloch Castle Golf Course (15 minutes) or sign up for watersports and other adventures at Cairngorms Activities (half an hour). There are plenty of walking trails around too, and in winter it’s a 25-minute drive to Lecht Ski Centre. Looking a little further afield, you could visit the estate the late Queen Elizabeth II was so fond of at Balmoral Castle (an hour), go birdwatching at RSPB Scotland Loch Garten Nature Centre (40 minutes) or head north to hit the coast at Lossiemouth (an hour).
