  • Peaceful off-grid yurts just off the NC500 route on the Black Isle
  • A 15-minute drive from Cromarty; 35 minutes to Inverness
  • Kitchen and woodburning stove in each yurt; dogs and kids welcome
The Black Isle is a particularly stunning part of the Scottish Highlands, rich in biodiversity and with some spectacular scenery to explore. And equally fabulous is Black Isle Yurts – a peaceful off-grid site with self-catering accommodation that makes an excellent base for exploring this gorgeous area. The hand-crafted yurts are part of a small working farm just off the North Coast 500 route about 10 minutes’ drive north of Fortrose, with ancient mixed woodland on one side and views across the Moray Firth on the other (keep an eye out and you may even spot bottlenose dolphins frolicking in the waves…) The yurts have been thoughtfully spread across the hillside to provide privacy and peace for all guests. Everything here has been designed for comfort and convenience – the yurts are nicely spacious, with windows and skylights to make the most of the natural light and a woodburning stove to keep everything snug and cosy (even in the face of the fickle Scottish climate). As well as comfy beds (with bed linen provided) and solar-powered lighting, each yurt has its own kitchen area with a gas cooker and plenty of crockery and cutlery. The well-equipped Hub building close by has bathrooms (with toilets, hot showers, baby changing and accessible facilities), a washing-up area, wifi and charging facilities. There’s also a large car park with an EV charger and wheelbarrows to help you get your stuff from car to yurt. Shops and places to eat are close by in Fortrose and Cromarty, and Inverness is 35 minutes’ drive away.
