Be warned: you'll probably want to stay longer than originally planned at Portsalon Luxury Camping in north Donegal. And the reasons they are aplenty, from the small size of the site and its spectacular coastal views, to the luxury accommodation in secluded yurts. And as it's on the Fanad peninsula, spectacular beaches are only a couple of miles away too.
All the yurts at Portsalon are set in their own secluded spots – naturally, smashing coastal views come with each – and have lockable front doors, a king-size bed and a double sofa bed, and a woodburning stove with a free basket of wood. The amenities building a short walk away has hot showers, sinks, hairdryers and a disabled-friendly bathroom.
Portsalon also has a second building which has a lounge area with woodburning stove, a small library, info on what to see and do in the region, and areas for self-catering.
The nearby village of Portsalon has shops, a café/restaurant, a pub/restaurant and a golf club. Please note that Portsalon Luxury Camping is an adults-only site.

Local attractions
The north of Donegal is a spectacularly scenic land of cliffs, beaches and green countryside, and is filled with outdoor activities of whatever flavour you fancy, such as horse riding on the beach, sea kayaking around the coast, surfing, strolling, hiking and cycling... It also has over a hundred sea stacks and more climbable rock than the rest of Ireland combined for those who want to clamber.
Even in summer, the remoteness of the area means that the local beaches aren't rammed with loads of people, so prepare for some long beach walks and – naturally – a few picnics. The three-mile sandy stretch of Portsalon is just over a mile from Portsalon Luxury Camping and is an utter beaut: so gorgeous it was named as the second most scenic beach in all the world by newspaper folk in the know.
Fanad Lighthouse is nearby and has also been voted a beaut by peeps in the know; take plenty of time here to wander around Fanad Head and spot whales, porpoises and dolphins in the waters, and to soak up info on the lighthouse at its small visitor centre.
This is hillwalking land too, with Knockalla a couple of miles away and both Errigal and Muckish mountains nearby. Boat trips and watersports are also available locally.
