  • Peaceful Wild Atlantic Way site five minutes’ drive from sandy beaches
  • In Miltown Malbay, 25 minutes’ drive from the famed Cliffs of Moher
  • Electric hook-up, fresh and black water facilities and secure gates
Hols on Ireland’s west coast come highly recommended for many reasons, not least the stunning sights this part of the country is famed for. Tom Malone’s Pub Parking, a family-friendly aire in the small town of Miltown Malbay, County Clare, is particularly well-placed for the most scenic of explores. Clare’s big draw is the Cliffs of Moher, spectacularly soaring cliffs 25 minutes’ drive from the site. Movie buffs may know them as the Princess Bride’s Cliffs of Insanity, or as the cliffs housing Slytherin’s locket in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but even those not familiar with either title should be able to appreciate the trails and views, and O’Brien’s Tower. This is walking country too: paths can be followed from atop the cliffs to the small village of Doolin (where boats can be caught for trips along the base of the cliffs and out to the Aran Islands), or guests can opt instead to journey inland to the Burren, a UNESCO geo park crisscrossed with walking trails. Its gateway, Corofin, is 30 minutes from the site. It's worth noting that this is an aire rather than a campsite and so it doesn't have full campsite facilities. It does, however, have electric hook-ups and fresh and black water facilities available (although there's no wifi). Stays should feel peaceful too, as guests’ sleep will go undisturbed: a secure gate blocks vehicle access from 10.30pm until 7am (unless previously arranged). Please note that pitches here are for motorhomes only – the site does not accept caravans, so please don't book a motorhome pitch for a caravan as you will be turned away.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Cleanliness

Disliked: Crikey, where do I start? No code for the gate. Couldn’t find the bathrooms. They were only naked by the color of the out side. Not near pub and when we found it, it was a Chinese takeaway. It had nothing to do with the camp ground. We were the only ones there and for good reason. Lol

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, which I think is somewhat misleading. There is a code for the security gates, but you have to check in first to access thd code. Once a guest arrives it is clear that the guest has to phone the manager who then allows remote access and gives the guest the gate access code. This is standard practice.
I'm afraid you need an eyesight test if uou couldn't see the bathrooms, as they and the office are the only buildings on site. Are you sure you should be driving a campervan? The Aire and the pub are owned by one and the same person...so there is a connection! If you stay in the campsite you get a discount at the Italian Restaurant operating from the pub or you can get a Chinese takeaway...whatever your fancy.
Finally just because a place is quiet does not reflect poor service.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Plenty of spaces available on site when we attended
Near to main street for shops
Toilets on site.

Disliked: 4amp only so limited on what electrical items you could charge and only one at a time as kept tripping. Needs to be clear on website so you know
Not a pretty site but practical
Site has main gate however anyone can walk in
No facility for rubbish albeit does say on website

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Electricity is 6amp but will trip if customers use domestic appliances such as kettles and hairdryers. I think this is common knowledge in the campervan world. It is clear on the website that it is 6amp. Site has a main gate but pedestrians have access to pedestrian gate. For heath snd safety reasons we cannot lock guests in!!!
No rubbish facilities but as you say this is clear on the website. It would be of benefit to guests to read the website first to ensure you know what you are booking.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: There was hook up, running drinking water, functioning toilets and a chemical toilet.

Disliked: Only vehicle on site, old disused carpark of a no longer functioning pub, now leased as an Italian restaurant downstairs with a Chinese takeaway upstairs. The town was dead in the midweek evenings in October, with 1 restaurant open and most of the pubs empty. Expensive for the facilities provided.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Unfortunately it is out of season now so there are very few using the Aire hence being the only vehicle on site. Unfortunately we cannot change the tourist season for you. Similarly we cannot be responsible for the fact that the pubs were too quiet for you or that there was only oner restaurant open midweek out of season, you will encounter this scenario in may rural towns and villages across the country. The Aire is what it says on the tin, it provides fresh water, grey/black water disposal, electric hook up, chemical toilets and male/female toilets along with security lighting and gates. Its not a campsite and does not claim to be, if you want campsite facilities you need to book in to a campsite. The services provided along with the price is clearly stated in the description before you book.

Electric gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: We visited Tom Malones campsite- camping aire site on 28th september on our 21st wedding a anniversary with our two friends for the weekend to explore the Clare coastline. The campsite is right in town with plenty of nice pubs for food drink and music and entertainment.
View south from the campsite you can see all the way down the beautiful Clare coastline. We did the beautiful Killkee Cliff walk. Pleanty of elec hookups, fresh water water and black waste disposal. Toilets are old world.. but clean. The owner is a lovely lady who gave us a lovely reception.
Will be back...

Disliked: NONE, all good.

Local attractions

A short stroll from the site will bring guests to the centre of Miltown Malbay, where experiencing traditional Irish music, dancing and storytelling is a matter of wandering into a pub. Keen to know more? The Music Makers of West Clare heritage centre, five minutes’ stroll from base, will provide a grounding in the history of the art form. For the full Clare experience, it’s just 30 minutes’ drive to Lisdoonvarna, the famed home of Europe’s biggest singles matchmaking festival, and 30 minutes in the opposite direction will bring explorers to Kilkee and the start of Loop Head, where scenic drives along a largely unexplored stretch of coastline and pitstops at the active Loop Head lighthouse await. Fans of TV’s Father Ted will want to make a pilgrimage to the Father Ted house. A 45-minute drive will bring fans to Craggy Island's parochial house (no boating required) and, if the group won’t be too disappointed at the different interior, afternoon tea can be had if booked in advance. Lazier days can easily be had by sticking closer to the site. It’s less than five minutes’ drive to sandy stretches at White Strand and Spanish Point for safe swims, and Spanish Point is a must for surf lessons. Fancy ditching the car? It’s a 25-minute walk to White Strand, and 40 minutes to Spanish Point.
