The best thing about the waterside location of Glasson Dock Campsite? For some guests it will be the chance to chill out and watch canal boats chugging along or see wildlife flitting about. For others it’s all about the active options – this is a spot where you can launch canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, fish or find lovely canalside walks. This fab pop-up camping field is next to the Lancaster Canal, a few metres from Glasson Marina. As well as the canal, the river Lune is close by – and it’s not far to the Lancashire coast, perhaps best appreciated 25 minutes’ drive away at Morecambe Bay. The compact city of Lancaster (15 minutes) is close at hand too and has plenty of supermarkets, shops and places for dinner out. This simple site is equipped with functional portable toilets and cold outdoor showers and is a five-minute stroll from the various cafés and eateries of Glasson Dock, which is the starting point for a number of footpaths and bike trails. The campsite is a laidback place where dogs, barbecues and campfires are all allowed and you’ll have space for an awning or gazebo if you like. Travelling without a car? Glasson Dock Campsite is a few minutes' walk from a bus stop, where you can catch regular services to Lancaster and beyond.

喜欢 Nice guy from marina next door who towed us off the site, for a fee, and leaving the site.

不喜欢 Booked 2 nights, got bogged down and stuck in mud as soon as drove on site, site owner was away for the day ,had to pay a man from marina next door to tow us off site, site was not fit for purpose, as we watched another van enter and get stuck as we waited to drive off. Would expect a full refund.

喜欢 Clean and accessible hygiene facilities. Lovely large space and a short walk to the pub for fabulous food. Had a delicious breakfast barm at the cabin by the lock and made purchases from the smokehouse.

不喜欢 We booked for mid September and the field was terribly boggy. Fortunately, we arrived to an empty site so managed to set up camp in a dry (ish) spot :)

喜欢 Excellent location if you want to be by canal and marina.

不喜欢 Toilets are very small and showers are cold. I understand that there's a proposal to upgrade the facilities in which case I would give it 10/10.

喜欢 Super friendly hosts very helpful. Beautiful spot right on the canal . a little walk in the morning to lovely breakfast takeaway stand at the dock side . Nice pub within walking distance too.

不喜欢 Toilets clean ish, and cold water shower

喜欢 The quietness of the site, the avian wildlife and the great location.

不喜欢 The field being very wet in places and the toilets being unclean. The owner is very cagey when answering the phone and this meant I almost didn't bother.

喜欢 Great location, so easy to explore Glasson Dock and Lancaster by either walking or driving. Facilities were very clean and tidy. Clear communication with owner of campsite who came to check in once we were set up - very friendly.

喜欢 Great location. Tucked away nicely from the main road. Owner came over for a chat which was a nice touch.

不喜欢 Toilet facilities could do with upgrading from those built for Warwick Davis!

Site could do with some rules regarding quiet times! Kids running around screaming at 10:30pm round our pitch and twice tripping over our electric hook up ripping it out of the box!

Keen to explore the local landscapes? Head to the coast for a day on the beach in Morecambe or a wander through the seaside scenery of the Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape; both are about 25 minutes' drive away. Inland, the Forest of Bowland National Landscape (20 minutes’ drive) is a great place for a walk, and also home to the Bowland Wild Boar Park (50 minutes). For a dose of history on your holiday, pay a visit to medieval Lancaster Castle (15 minutes) and the National Trust’s fabulous Sizergh (half an hour), with an imposing stately home at the centre of a 1600-acre estate. Those of you who love a few thrill rides will definitely want to make the journey to Blackpool Pleasure Beach (45 minutes), perhaps visiting Blackpool Tower, the zoo and the Sea Life Centre while you're there.
