Lyme Regis, Dorset, England
Primitive grass tent or RV campsite
Liked Really well located for Lyme Regis
Best loos I've ever seen on a campsite!
Once found, easy access into and around the site
Beautiful views.
Disliked Unfortunately there are just too many pitches for the size of the space. This means you're essentially pitching your tent right next to other people's tents and their cars.
There is no demarkation of the individual pitches other than a wooden number.
Whilst other reviewers have commented on road noise, I didn't really notice this at night - it is always there in the day time though. However, because you're so close to other campers, the noise from them is significant.
If you are in a pitch near the loos, there are big lights that go on and off through the night.
Do not follow the postcode to get there as this is inaccurate.

Primitive grass campsite (no pets)
Liked Quiet. Clearly laid out, large and flat pitches. Helpful but unobtrusive hosts. Well located. Very good value for money.
Disliked The loos were very smelly.

From the manager: Thank you Helena, I really appreciate all reviews. Sorry if the toilets smelt, I clean them at least twice a day but with the hot weather and occasionally sawdust being put in the wrong section, it can be more of a challenge to prevent this but I will try. 🙂
Ottery St Mary, Devon, England
Primitive grass tent campsite (small)
Liked Beautiful location, easy to find, really well spaced pitches meaning it is quiet (there is a walk from car parking, but was OK for me - wheelbarrow provided). Facilities sufficient.
Disliked The chat with the owner at the start was a bit OTT for me personally- the map of the site was enough.

From the manager: Hello Helena, Thank you so much for your kind comments — we're really glad you appreciated the peaceful setting, generous pitch spacing, and found the wheelbarrow handy for the short walk from the parking area. We totally understand your feedback about the check-in chat. As a working farm, we’re not quite your average campsite — so that initial welcome is partly about helping guests settle in, but also about making sure everyone’s aware of a few important safety and practical bits that might not apply elsewhere (especially with tractors and tree nurseries in the mix!). And with just 12 pitches in a 15 acre commercial cider orchard I wouldn't want anyone to feel lost... especially as there aren't 'formal' pitch signs and numbers like a 'normal' campsite! That said, we always want to strike the right balance, so we appreciate your honesty and will keep refining how we do things. Thanks again for choosing Bowhayes Farm — we hope to welcome you back in the future. Regards, Howard

Power optional grass tent campsite
Liked Safe (locked gate), quiet (some distant road noise), flat pitch next to car, friendly host. Nice location for walking but also close to Gloucester.
Disliked Nothing much. Toilets could do with a mirror.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite
Liked Laid back, easy to find, no awkward conversation with host! Great location, v close to sea and with ponies! Quiet and peaceful (I imagine less so in the height of summer, but that's to be expected). Felt safe and secure.
Disliked Toilets are rustic! But I was aware of this and it didn't bother me.
