  • Peaceful family-friendly farm site in Hampshire's Test Valley
  • Stonehenge, New Forest and Highclere Castle within 40 minutes' drive
  • Farm shop, café and two pubs within a five-minute drive
Fancy checking out some national treasures in the Test Valley? Then treat yourself to a stay at Rowbury Farm Camping, a fab spot in the Hampshire countryside with views towards Andover and the Iron Age hill fort of Danebury. Danebury is just one of the heritage sites and scenic spots close by: Stonehenge is half an hour's drive away, and the farm is in the middle of a cluster of national parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including the New Forest and the North Wessex Downs. The site is made up of a quiet, simple and green 11-acre field, much of which is covered in wildflowers, with mown pitches scattered throughout. The friendly owners support recycling on site and ask that there's no loud music or parties so everyone, wildlife included, can relish the peace. There are large firepits around the site where guests can gather round the flames to sizzle sausages or even braise wild boar if that's your bag… For other food, it's a five-minute drive to a farm shop with attached café; there are two good pubs with food within a similar distance and it's a 10-minute drive to shops and supermarkets in Stockbridge.

What customers say

This peaceful, well-kept campground offers spacious, private sites often bordered by wildflowers. Guests rave about the clean facilities, friendly hosts, and beautiful natural setting. While shower cleanliness has improved, occasional nearby noise and a desire for more amenities when busy are noted. Overall, a highly positive experience with many eager to return.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Clean, hot showers, grest choice of pitches. Convenient coffee hut in the morning (can order pastries for the next day) Site managers Steve and Becky so helpful and available if needed. Amenities just a 5 mins drive away

Disliked Annoying barn owl calling some nights needs shooting (only joking, lovely getting back to nature 🤣)

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Big pitches, well spaced with lots of wildflowers around them and fruit trees planted at the top of the field. Quiet at night, bats flitting around the campsite. Facilities were well kept and clean. Lovely countryside around for walking. Easy check-in.

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked What lovely, clean and friendly site.
À large field mowed into camping bays with pathways for kids and adults to walk through, à few apple trees; with apples ripe for picking, fresh eggs from the on site chickens and birds nesting in the bushes.
There is also an old gypsy style caravan hosted by the lovely Becki as a simple coffee food truck .

Primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked I really liked the simplicity of Rowbury Farm campsite, no fuss or bureaucracy checking in or massive list of do's and don'ts. It was peaceful and everyone was respectful.

Disliked I didn't realise you just drove in and grabbed whatever pitch was available. I kind of panicked when I arrived as I didn't know the layout and grabbed the first one I came across which ended up being the smallest pitch ever so didn't have room for the awning. I also felt quite exposed particularly as I was on my own. It's basically a very big field where pitches are mowed out from tall grass. Perhaps some natural screening for the middle pitches to offer a bit of privacy would be nice, but I really did appreciate the naturalness of the set up.

Local attractions

In terms of sights and activities there are some headline acts around here, but you can pass an easy half day or two without straying too far. Footpaths crisscross the local area (one leading to Danebury's Iron Age fort), and National Cycle Route 246 also passes right by: this is a spectacular stretch you can pedal all the way through the North Wessex Downs up into Berkshire. Similarly close by, splat each other with paintballs and shoot each other with lasers a two-minute drive away at the local activity centre, or zip through the treetops on wires and ropes at Treerunners (10 minutes). For a more sedate time, tour the vines and sip the wines at Cottonworth, five minutes away. It's a half-hour drive to Neolithic Stonehenge and a similar distance to Highclere Castle, in use in one form or another since the eighth century and most recently as the set for British TV hit Downton Abbey. The surrounding North Wessex Downs are fine walking country, just as the elegant stately home and gardens at Hinton Ampner (40 minutes) make a good intro to the South Downs. More top walks and wildlife spotting can be had as the National Nature Reserve of ancient Langley Wood (40 minutes away) merges with the New Forest. To see some of that wildlife close up, the Hawk Conservancy Trust is 15 minutes away, with feeding and flying displays from the resident raptors.
