  • Peaceful family-friendly farm site in Hampshire's Test Valley
  • Stonehenge, New Forest and Highclere Castle within 40 minutes' drive
  • Farm shop, café and two pubs within a five-minute drive
Fancy checking out some national treasures in the Test Valley? Then treat yourself to a stay at Rowbury Farm Camping, a fab spot in the Hampshire countryside with views towards Andover and the Iron Age hill fort of Danebury. Danebury is just one of the heritage sites and scenic spots close by: Stonehenge is half an hour's drive away, and the farm is in the middle of a cluster of national parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including the New Forest and the North Wessex Downs. The site is made up of a quiet, simple and green 11-acre field, much of which is covered in wildflowers, with mown pitches scattered throughout. The friendly owners support recycling on site and ask that there's no loud music or parties so everyone, wildlife included, can relish the peace. There are large firepits around the site where guests can gather round the flames to sizzle sausages or even braise wild boar if that's your bag… For other food, it's a five-minute drive to a farm shop with attached café; there are two good pubs with food within a similar distance and it's a 10-minute drive to shops and supermarkets in Stockbridge.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked A beautiful, small site and situated on a very quiet lane. Loved the pitches set in wildflowers. Amenities were kept spotless and there was also a little cafe open all day for snacks and drinks. Friendly hosts. Great walking country. Would highly recommend and will return one day soon.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Becki & Steve are just lovely family hosts. Very friendly and accommodating.
The facilities we thought were very good with nice, well thought out and functional blocks for toilets and showers.
Good washing up facilities too.
Really nice touch with the freezer for re-freezing ice packs.
We liked the sizes of the pitches available and we pleasantly surprised at how non-crowded it was over the May half term(2026) where we had around 33 degrees for much of the week.
The pitches are well mowed and shaped and the ground has only a slight gradient so you won't wake up rolled against your tent wall.
The area is lovely and quiet and you could walk to the nearest village in around 25mins depending on your pace.
It is a dog friendly site too, however when we went it was far too hot to venture out during the day with the pooch.

I'm actually going back just a couple of weeks after although the weather looks wetter and cooler! Still looking forward to it though.

Disliked Although it would be nice if there was a pub a little closer, we found nothing to dislike.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked What not to like!
A friendly greeting on arrival having smiled at the 'Welcome' board. You choose your own pitch where the area has ben mowed, with little paths, but the wild meadow still stands around you. Free fire pit to use and wood to purchase.
Clean facilities and such a peaceful spot. Delightful coffee shepherds hut served by the kind and helpful campsite owner. Ridiculously low price for a fabulous site, thank you to Rowbury Farm.

Disliked I was only there one night and couldn't stay more.

Unpowered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Such a nice campsite, will definitely be returning, so much thought has been put into the space and the layout and it really shows. Its amazing how just a bit of longer grass creates such a greater feeling of privacy and space. My toddler loved being able to follow all the tracks in the long grass and i was able to just sit back and easily eye him from a distance. We've stayed on many sites and went on to a few more in the week after this one and none were as good. I think the balance between simplicity and customer experience has been achieved so well here.

Local attractions

In terms of sights and activities there are some headline acts around here, but you can pass an easy half day or two without straying too far. Footpaths crisscross the local area (one leading to Danebury's Iron Age fort), and National Cycle Route 246 also passes right by: this is a spectacular stretch you can pedal all the way through the North Wessex Downs up into Berkshire. Similarly close by, splat each other with paintballs and shoot each other with lasers a two-minute drive away at the local activity centre, or zip through the treetops on wires and ropes at Treerunners (10 minutes). For a more sedate time, tour the vines and sip the wines at Cottonworth, five minutes away. It's a half-hour drive to Neolithic Stonehenge and a similar distance to Highclere Castle, in use in one form or another since the eighth century and most recently as the set for British TV hit Downton Abbey. The surrounding North Wessex Downs are fine walking country, just as the elegant stately home and gardens at Hinton Ampner (40 minutes) make a good intro to the South Downs. More top walks and wildlife spotting can be had as the National Nature Reserve of ancient Langley Wood (40 minutes away) merges with the New Forest. To see some of that wildlife close up, the Hawk Conservancy Trust is 15 minutes away, with feeding and flying displays from the resident raptors.
