General

  • Family-friendly site 600m from the sea, close to Forest of la Coubre
  • 6km from La Palmyre Zoo, 10 from Royan and 2 from Saint-Palais-sur-Mer
  • Big heated waterpark, two bars, free tennis, playground and shop

Six smashing destinations are within easy reach of Camping Le Logis in the Charente-Maritime: you'll need at least one day at each, plus several more among the first-rate facilities on site, so do be sure to book at least a couple of weeks...

First up, the site is just over a kilometre from a wide sandy beach on the Côte de Beauté and (smashing destination numero deux) a few kilometres from Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, a seaside town where sun and sand seekers have basked and bathed since the 19th century. Thirdly and fourthly, it's 10 kilometres from here to department capital Royan, and eight kilometres to La Palmyre Zoo.

Fifthly? You won't have to get into the car to reach the Forest of la Coubre, the coastal pine woodland with trails for biking, hiking and horse riding. And finally, the famed Golf de Royan course is 500 metres away; if you've never teed off before, ask the Camping Le Logis team to arrange a private lesson.

Your several days on site are sorted at the 1200m² heated waterpark with paddling pool, main pool and waterslides, and at the sporty options nearby: play tennis for free, bounce a smaller ball at ping pong, or take to the sports court for football or basketball.

But, of course, you may care for a less active vibe... Sorted too, at the two bars and summer kids' club and playground to occupy the small people while you laze about with an ice cream.

Camping Le Logis also has a snack bar, a grocery shop and a bakery.

Quieter area available for families with young children. Very good pool and slides area. Nice clean bar area with good shop, on-site bakery, launderette and snack bar. Staff were helpful in trying to find us a flatter pitch. Staff all very friendly and helpful.
Can borrow seafood set (crab and oyster set) to enjoy local food.

    Disliked:

Very uneven pitch initially offered. No proper water filling facility for tourers, have to use washing up sinks. No hose to wash out chemical waste from caravans. Cold showers on 1 day. Sandy, leafy floor get annoying eventually when caravan and feet constantly filthy. Pool loungers quickly filled with unoccupied towels. No inflatables allowed in pool. Have to use prepaid card for onsite purchases.

1 ROLL OF TOILET ROLL FOR 8 TOILETS so usually none available. NO SOAP AT SINKS WHICH IS EXTREMELY UNHYGIENIC, most people used toilets without attempting to wash hands. Toilets and sinks not located in same area

Welcoming site with friendly staff. Issue with the pitch was sorted promptly. Lots of facilities on site including laundry, restaurant and wifi. We bought discounted tickets for the zoo from the main reception too. Electricity was good and the site was very clean. The site itself is very good for local visits to the beach, shops and the zoo. Our pitch was quiet despite being close to the pool and bar. There were a number of groups of lads camping nearby but there was no trouble at all from them and they kept the noise down. The pool was large with 2 slides, a lazy river and a few islands. This kept the children busy. On Wednesday nights the pool is opened from 9pm-11pm. This was quite exciting for our children as the pool was lit up. Unfortunately the pool was still cold.

    Disliked:

There was no water on site to use within our caravan. We were advised not to use the water so bought water from the local supermarket. The pool was very cold resulting in short visits to it. The pool was descibed as being heated but this proved incorrect. Some of the pitches were placed in challenging places (on slopes, raised high in peaked parts or on unstable ground). Our initial pitch was on sand with large dips in it. This was not level at all and was not suitable for us. We were relocated but other people were given our original pitch and struggled to pitch tents on. There were only 3 showers in the block near our pitch. One of these was allocted as disabled access but the lock was broken. This meant there were only 2 showers available. During peak times the showers had long queues.

Excellent swimming pool and proximity to the beautiful St Palais and coastline. Shaded pitches in pretty forest.

    Disliked:

The poor organisation of the site. Congested and chaotic. Unclear pitches, too close together. No separation of families to groups of lads. No distinct parking spaces on pitch - a free for all. Overpopulated with uneven pitches with heavily sanded areas. Unisex toilet block not lit at night!

The position of the site in relation to the surrounding towns was good and the site has a spacious airy bar, great pool and lots of activities.

    Disliked:

Many pitches are not level. You need to purchase a camping card from the cashier office to use for paying for anything at the bar, snack bar or to buy tokens for the washing machines & driers. (We prefer to use cash or debit card). No facilities for emptying caravan toilet cassette - you need to drive a km to another site to empty. No dedicated water for campers so have to use the taps in the dish washing area which may be awkward for some. They allow large groups and sadly we were disturbed very late on two consecutive nights by a group of young men.

The campsite was right by the beach, only a short walk away. Also very near palmyer zoo which is well worth a visit. The swimming pool was well maintained and was always clean. Electric hook-up worked fine with no issue. Our pitch was great, lots of privacy and quiet.

    Disliked:

The toilet facilities were often dirty. The showers on the ladies side were missing hooks and shelves so there was nowhere to put your things, and the showers were sometimes cold or only let out a trickle of water. Also, the water only stayed on while you pushed the button. Washing up water was always cold. However, the campsite was full, so this could all have been due to demand.

Local attractions

Make the family-friendly seaside resort of Saint-Palais-sur-Mer a few minutes' drive from the site, an early option when you're staying at Camping Le Logis as there's heaps to do here for all ages: as well as its five-kilometre beach, the town has markets, bars, a nightclub, and a beach club for kids with magic shows, games, storytelling and circus sessions.

Hire a bike on site to pedal through the Forest of la Coubre and along the coast, on all or part of the 30-kilometre trail between Saint-Palais-sur-mer and Ronce-les-Bains. Mountain bike and horse riding trails carved out by the National Forestry Office weave through the trees too; for hiking, take one of the many marked trails or get onto the GR 4 long-distance path, passing through the forest on its route from Royan to Ronce-les-Bains.

A casino and promenade are at Royan, 15 minutes' drive away or about 25 minutes by bus. The town's probably best known for its five beaches and its setting at the mouth of the Gironde estuary, the biggest in western Europe.
