  • Dog-friendly hilltop glamping with views of Dordogne and Lot
  • A 15-minute drive to the Dordogne river; Sarlat-la-Canéda half an hour
  • On-site restaurant, playground, games room and sports activities
With a woodland setting on top of a hill overlooking Dordogne and Lot, there are excellent views at Koko Holidays at Domaine de la Paille Basse. That’s not all, though – this dog-friendly site 10 minutes' drive from Souillac has a splendid assortment of facilities, including a playground, a games room, sports activities and tasty food and drink in the restaurant. That’s likely to be just what you’ll need after a day out around the Lot, cycling, hiking or even just driving around. The Dordogne river is just 10 kilometres away too if you fancy canoeing, swimming or setting off for explores along the riverbank. Whether you have an active day or lazy one enjoying the privacy of your glamping accommodation, the site's facilities are on hand to help you unwind (or let off any remaining steam). The place is very family-friendly: there’s a paddling pool and a playground for young kids, plus a teen lounge, discos, a games room and sports activities for the older children. The green, wooded area at Koko Holidays at Domaine de la Paille Basse was once the base of three medieval farms, which were restored and turned into the current site. Along those lines, you'll be able to fully immerse yourself in historic sites at surrounding castles, fortresses and medieval manors, all of which are within a short drive.

Local attractions

This part of France is well-known for its impressive castles, and lots of good days out are to be had at such sites as the Château de Fénelon (30 minutes), the Château de Beynac (45 minutes) and the Château des Milandes (50 minutes) to name but a few. If you're interested in that kind of thing, you may also appreciate the 18th-century gardens at Eyrignac Manor (20 minutes) or the formal 17th-century grounds of Marqueyssac gardens (40 minutes). Altogether more ancient spots can also be reached from here, including Lascaux and its far-famed cave paintings (35 minutes). The National Museum of Prehistory (45 minutes) is also on hand to fill you in on the context surrounding Paleolithic life in this part of France. For some time in town, take a wander through the streets of Sarlat-la-Canéda (half an hour), a regional hub where the well-preserved medieval quarter is stuffed with places to try local delicacies, with speciality shops, cafés and lots of other foodie offerings.
