  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Liked What an absolute gem this place is. The facilities were immaculately clean, modern and spacious. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The little shop on site was handy to have in case you forgot anything. We would definitely be back to book future trips here as we enjoyed it so much. Beautiful place to be

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (XL)

Liked Wonderful well kept site in an idyllic location. This is the perfect setting to explore Bala. An easy stroll to the lake and very short walk to town. The site itself has immaculate facilities, a small shop with all basics. The local butcher will deliver straight to site too.

Disliked Nothing to dislike

From the manager: Thank you so much Rebecca - it was a pleasure to have you stay with us and we hope to see you again very soon!

Blodwen shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked The site was very well maintained and spotlessly clean. The view's were beautiful, and very friendly staff.

Disliked The fact that there wasn't a easy chair to sit in, in the sheppard,s hut. Found the settee too low.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and really glad that you found the site well maintained and clean. The Shepheard's huts are very compact and all that you need is in there with no space unfortunatley for an extra chair but glad that you would visit again.

FHU cement/asphalt campervan campsite (medium)

Liked Great site in lovely location. Clean and well organised.

The staff are welcoming and constantly cleaning and tidy the facilities and grounds.

The shower blocks are well equipped and clean. Washing up area has a number of sinks and plenty of space. The WiFi is about the best I have found at sites, as much as I wanted to escape my phone, I needed to do some work and it was faster than most hotels manage.

A few minutes walk to Bala Lake Steam train, and a few minutes more to Bala Lake. The lake area is stunning and I hired a kayak, I would recommend it. Bala town is not far and you find where the paths and shortcuts are. A few convenience shops and a great chippy.

The site may be quiet for some, but that is exactly what I wanted.

I will definitely be going back and if I add anything in dislike box it is because I don’t like leaving a box blank!

Disliked A variable temperature on shower would be great. I had plenty of sun, wanted a cool shower but it was hot only. Not a dislike really, this is a beautiful camp site.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind words and glad that you found the site to suit your needs. We look forward to seeing you here again.

FHU cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Site was peaceful and well kept. Toilets and showers were clean and recently installed.

Disliked Showers weren’t hot enough and on the last day were cold.

From the manager: Thank you for your positive words regarding the site and its cleanliness - the amenity block is actually in its fourth season so it's great that you felt it looked newly installed!
Sorry to hear you wouldn't plan to visit again or recommend us to your friends. The showers are being looked into by our plumber after comments over the weekend that they were cold, so we are trying to rectify this issue.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
