  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (XL)

Liked: Lovely looking site, wonderfully clean and tidy.

Disliked: Not really a dislike but just to mention you are not actually on the lake but afew minutes walk down the road. No issue other than if wanting to paddle board etc straight from site then you actually can’t.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review Joanne, we're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
We do not actually advertise that we are on the lake, our site info states "This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake" so I feel it is slightly unfair to mark us down for this. You can easily walk to the lake from the site - roughly 5mins to the nearest launch point and maybe 10-15 minutes' walk to the lake shore and water sports centre.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (XL)

Liked: Lovely facilities, friendly staff, great pitch size, good value, great location to Bala, great walking and watersports nearby

Disliked: No WiFi
Lot of tree sap and debris to watch out for on some pitches, ours was affected, most of the pitches are not.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you Rebecca 😊 we're glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we hope to see you again soon.
There is Wi-Fi but by our own admission it is not very good and this is something we are trying to work with the owner to improve. There is very little we can do about the tree sap at this time of year though, sorry...

Good site but would definitely benefit from a park

8M fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Toilets where excellent, site was very clean and tidy

Disliked: Pitch was poor in my opinion not the easiest to get onto with the caravan as not much room in front to pull forward, ground was hard standing but very difficult to peg the awning as nothing much under the gravel to grab too. Pitches are also on quite a steep hill which it doesn't show on the oictures not ideal for kids on there bikes, Lots of noisy people in tents around us aswell playing football at 7am isn't ideal. Also no park for the kids

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and so glad that you enjoyed our facilities which we are very proud of. As for the pitch itself it was a fully serviced 8 m pitch which you had booked , very level and a fantastic view. We have had no complaints about any difficulty in pegging awnings and to get to the pitch you had to drive up a small hill, would hardly say it was steep as we the staff walk up there on a regular basis! We do not advertise that we have a children's play area as there are 2 very good ones within walking distance to town. The warden was on duty every night and there was no noise in any tents at night, but if you have early risers around you wanting to play football as they were on holiday too, not a lot we can do about that I'm afraid,

Kind Regards

Liked: Location to Baka Lake and town fantastic and the scenery was fabulous.
Site beautifully kept, pitches more than adequate in size.
We had hard standing with electric point and water tap which was perfect.
Facilities excellent and exceptionally clean Being a person with mobility issues it was a welcome sight to find disabled shower facilities.
Staff very cheerful and chatty.
We had our own wifi but wifi was available on site.

Liked: Beautifully maintained site just a couple of minutes walk from Bala Lake. Nice big level pitches and great shower block.

Note for caravans, suggest approach from A5 and A494. Sat nav may suggest B4396 and although roads are fine, found the A roads an easier drive.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
