  • Family-owned Snowdonia site near the shore of Bala Lake
  • A short walk to watersports, boat hire and Bala Lake Railway
  • Within walking distance of Bala’s shops, restaurants and golf course
Got Snowdonia National Park in your sights? You can add a little sailing or windsurfing – and relaxation on a family-run site – into the mix when staying at Pen Y Bont Touring and Camping Park. This peaceful place is just a few hundred metres from the shore of Bala Lake (also known by its Welsh name Llyn Tegid). The fresh air of the Snowdonia National Park is sure to aid that well-awaited relaxation… and when you’re feeling fully rejuvenated (and full of tasty food from the shops and restaurants in Bala town centre, 15 minutes’ walk away), there are activities like sailing, windsurfing and boat hire around the lake. Switch up Bala Lake’s gentle ripples for the whitewater of the Tryweryn at the National White Water Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away. Adventurous souls can zoom down the 1080-metre zipwire at Zip World Llechwedd (40 minutes’ drive), climb Snowdonia’s mountains or catch a few swells at the surf lagoon at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (50 minutes). If you’d rather move at a more leisurely pace, putting a few holes as you go, there’s a golf course on the other side of Bala, half an hour’s walk away from the site. Spa days and massage treatments are available about 10 minutes' walk away too.

What customers say

Pen Y Bont Caravan Park gets kudos for great, modern facilities, spotless washrooms, and friendly staff. It's in a beautiful spot with roomy pitches, near Bala Lake and town. Guests love the peaceful vibe, tidy grounds, and handy shop. Most recommend it, though some note road noise on certain pitches and spotty WiFi.

FHU cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked A beautiful campsite with on site shop fully stocked with essentials. The shower / toilet facilities were modern and spotless ! A great area for washing up. This site is surrounded with beautiful trees and the site is kept immaculate with gorgeous planting. Very pretty. Each pitch is of ample size, with fresh water tap and electric. Town is a short walk and lake is a stones throw away.

Disliked Nothing !

FHU cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Clean and tidy site, beautiful location, quiet yet close to facilities in Bala. Staff were very helpful

Disliked Our pitch was one of the few that didn’t get the evening sunshine.
As we booked late we had to pay for a full service pitch which we didn’t need. Not a cheap site.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review - we hope to welcome you back to Pen Y Bont and hopefully we can find you a pitch with a bit more sunshine in the evening!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Near the railway. Lovely clean toilet/shower blocks. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Disliked Next to the main road into Bala, so was noisy at night and early in the morning. No space for children to play as pitches were very close together.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry to hear you wouldn't plan to return to Pen Y Bont nor recommend us to your friends, that is very disappointing. Our tent pitches are not next to the main road, but yes the site is located alongside a B-road which can be noisy during busy periods, but we do not hide this and do expect guests to have an awareness of where they are booking. There may not be a huge amount of space on site for the children to play but the location we are in is the perfect place for exploring and adventuring - we have the lake, river, waterfalls and local walks coming out of our ears to entertain old and young alike. There is also a children's play area 5 minutes' walk from the site if they need to blow off a bit of steam.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The site was spotlessly clean and the shower facilities were excellent, stocked with shampoo and conditioner and we never had to queue. There is a small, reasonably priced shop and fire pits to borrow for free. The site is a support walk to Bala lake and other hikes.

Disliked Nothing to do with the site itself but unfortunately we had very noisy neighbours who blasted music until 2am, openly smoked drugs and then put the music back on full blast every day at 7am meaning we had to leave a night early as we were too exhausted to enjoy the rest of the trip. There were others unhappy too, maybe there should be ways of reporting anti-social behaviour on site thought we didn’t enquire about this.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and glad that you enjoyed our facilities. We are really sorry for your noisy neighbors and this should have been brought to the attention of the staff at reception who would have dealt with this situation promptly. There is an emergency number on the reception door at all times for this kind of problem. Hopefully we will see you again and that you will have a much better experience.

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (XL)

Liked Very easy check in and small, well kept site with good pitches. Toilets also very clean. Ten min walk towards Bala - on the outskirts of town so quiet at night.

Disliked No play area (that we could find?) for young kids so it was too quiet for us, but it was a lovely site and safe for them to wander around.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, it is very much appreciated. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again.
We don't have a play area for children as there is so much to do in the local area (including a children's play area within walking distance and an indoor soft play area in town) that we don't feel it's necessary.

8M FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely site 6 !! plenty of room and the best facilities I’ve seen in a long time.
The staff were very pleasant and great fun!!
Will try and get back some day.

Disliked No free Wi-Fi which at £50 per night is poor!! No tv reception!!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, very much appreciated and glad that you had a good time. The WIFI is actually free as we are currently upgrading the system so not sure where you paid for this?? We also have good tv reception as the site is in the middle of the main mast and satellite dish, when you visit again please come and ask at reception for the right way to point your Ariel!

Kind regards

FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (medium)

Liked Site was in a great location for walking to town and to the lake. Site was clean and pitch sizes were brilliant. People need to keep their dogs on leads at all times as near miss with another dog that was off lead. (Not sites fault as they stipulate this on booking).

Disliked Bit on expensive side for pitch than what we normally pay but worth going for views on the lake.

Local attractions

For those days where you can’t be bothered to walk too far, it’s very handy that the station for the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway is just five minutes’ walk away. Views of the water are a given, but count the mountains too: Arenig Fawr, Aran Fawddwy and Aran Benllyn are visible on the route. You may have your sights set on climbing Wales’ tallest mountain, perhaps. If you’re not climbing up Snowdon (an hour's drive) yourself, you might want to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (an hour and five minutes), which has been making its ascent for over 100 years. A less strenuous trail than the Snowdon climb is the Mawddach Trail, which runs for just under 10 miles from Dolgellau (half an hour), crossing over the gorgeous Barmouth railway bridge on the other end. Coed y Brenin Forest Park (35 minutes) has plenty of trails too, through thick forest this time. You can take them on by mountain bike, standard bicycle or on foot – and there’s bike hire at the forest park.
