Nantcellan Barns: Emperor bell tent

General

  • Quiet pitches on a 20-acre meadow bordered by woods and a stream
  • A five-minute drive from Aberystwyth and 10 minutes from Borth
  • Walk to Clarach Bay in 15 minutes along a footpath and lane

‘Our aim is to create a relaxing nature-focused environment’ say the folk at Nantcellan Barns – and they’ve certainly achieved that with their peaceful Ceredigion site, which is spread over a 20-acre meadow and bordered by a small stream and native woodlands.

Much effort is going into improving this ex-dairy pastureland and managing the woodlands to create better habitats for native wildlife while also providing plenty of grazing for the resident working draft horses. Stays here go towards funding this work, so you can feel like you’re doing good while also staying in a fabulous rural spot.

From this quiet family-friendly site it’s about a 15-minute walk along a footpath and lane to Clarach Bay for a sheltered sandy/shingle beach and seafront café bars serving up woodfired pizzas, fish and chips, coffees and cakes. And if you want to see more of Ceredigion’s wonderful coastline (and no doubt you will…) you can then pick up the coast path for strolls south towards Aberystwyth or north to Borth.

Both of those places are great destinations for beaches, things to do and places to eat – if you’d rather drive straight there it’s about five minutes to Aberystwyth or 10 minutes to Borth. Beyond Borth is the Dyfi Biosphere, a protected natural landscape that’s well worth exploring. Alternatively, head inland to places like Nant y Moch for more walking and bike trail options.

In keeping with their mission, the owners have kept the offerings here simple to avoid too much impact on the land, but guests will have access to showers, portaloos and a washing-up area, and are welcome to bring barbecues or light campfires.

We loved everything about this campsite . The best campsite we’ve been on yet . Very welcoming friendly staff . Beautiful place . Close to various places . Quirky amenities and all super clean . Everything you need on site . We will be returning and returning again and again . So peaceful throughly enjoyed our stay . If you love camping as much as we do this most definitely is the place to be . If your a camper who loves to walk or a camper who loves the peace or a driving camper it’s the place to stay .

Just returned from a fantastic weekend at this newly discovered gem. What a wonderful site with loads of space spread out so as you are not on top of each other and so peaceful. Yes there are portaloos but we found these to be clean and well maintained. Outdoor showers are quirky and a must after a day out walking. Lovely Clarach Bay is just 15 min walk away. Will we be returning? You can bet on it!

Everything - a lovely site, the owners have clearly put a lot of effort into thinking about and providing for campers needs: the well-equipped kitchen, the excellent showers, even the clear signposting to the beach, was all perfect.

    Disliked:

The group of girl campers who drove and parked right by the kitchen for breakfast, left their engine running for over an hour while they did their downward dogs (or whatever 🙄) by the van. I'm glad I wasn't in a nearby tent.

Great open top showers. Clean and lovely hot water. Good supply of water and washing up facilities. Great for kids and dogs to run freely.

    Disliked:

The exit from the field is a grass hill, we got stuck as it was raining, however the owner came quickly and gave us a tow for which we we’re grateful. The lavs were chemical toilets and by the time I needed to go in the late morning they were too dirty so we had to go into town to find facilities.
