‘Our aim is to create a relaxing nature-focused environment’ say the folk at Nantcellan Barns – and they’ve certainly achieved that with their peaceful Ceredigion site, which is spread over a 20-acre meadow and bordered by a small stream and native woodlands. Much effort is going into improving this ex-dairy pastureland and managing the woodlands to create better habitats for native wildlife while also providing plenty of grazing for the resident working draft horses. Stays here go towards funding this work, so you can feel like you’re doing good while also staying in a fabulous rural spot. From this quiet family-friendly site it’s about a 20-minute walk along a footpath and lane to Clarach Bay for a sheltered sandy/shingle beach and seafront café bars serving up woodfired pizzas, fish and chips, coffees and cakes. And if you want to see more of Ceredigion’s wonderful coastline (and no doubt you will…) you can then pick up the coast path for strolls south towards Aberystwyth or north to Borth. Both of those places are great destinations for beaches, things to do and places to eat – if you’d rather drive straight there it’s about five minutes to Aberystwyth or 10 minutes to Borth. Beyond Borth is the Dyfi Biosphere, a protected natural landscape that’s well worth exploring. Alternatively, head inland to places like Nant y Moch for more walking and bike trail options. In keeping with their mission, the owners have kept the offerings here simple to avoid too much impact on the land, but guests will have access to showers, portable toilets and a washing-up area, and are welcome to bring barbecues or light campfires.

喜欢 It was quiet. It was clean. Perfect for a wildish camp. Short walk to a beach with facilities. No WiFi which is actually nice to disconnect. Shortish walk to Aberystwyth.

喜欢 Nice open field with plenty of space. Well kept flat field. Nice and quiet.

不喜欢 Facilities were okay. Not the best but they did what they needed to. Not the easiest to find if coming from the Aberyswyth way even with instructions. Would help if there were some signs prior to the turning.

喜欢 Extremely quiet and peaceful site with a view of the sea. Lots of wildlife - we saw amazing birds of prey. About 20 minutes to the beach. Quiet rules are respected. We loved the showers and the gas hob was a lifesaver as ours broke. Pitches are flat with lots of space. Very clean. Only a 15 minute drive to Aberystwyth.

喜欢 I don't think I actually met the people who own the site.. The postcode doesn't exactly match the location of the field. As I took a run up the hill I missed the field, my Sat Nav took me a bit up the hill. It was just a bare basic field with a toilet and shower block. A shed thing in the corner. I stayed one night with my camper van. I booked the site because there wasn't many in the area. It did feel a tad expensive for the price. You are suppose to ring someone on arrival, but to my knowledge they never arrived. We didn't use the toilets, cos we did arrive a little later in the day.

喜欢 Great campsite within walking distance of coast path/beaches meaning I didn’t have to move my van until departure!

Spacious pitches, nicely sign-posted walk to the beach, facilities were clean, peaceful site

No WiFi that I know of but great 5g connection so rated based off that.

不喜欢 Not dislikes but just some suggestions-

Could do with paper towels or a hand dryer in the toilets!

Better sign posting for chemical waste point could be helpful as I only spotted this when leaving and I’m sure others might have been the same :)

It’s likely that you’ll be popping to Aberystwyth (five minutes’ drive) for supplies – but don’t limit your outing to just the shops, as this coastal town also has a castle and museum to visit and the funicular Cliff Railway to ride. You can also board the Vale of Rheidol Railway here for a trip to the Devil’s Bridge waterfalls. Elsewhere along the coast it’s worth visiting Borth (10 minutes) at low tide to see the petrified forest, or heading a little further along the coast for a day in Aberaeron (half an hour), often described as one of the prettiest seaside locations in Wales. New Quay (45 minutes) should be on the cards for dolphin-spotting boat trips too. Back on land, there’s more wildlife to see at RSPB Ynys-hir nature reserve (20 minutes) or Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest (20 minutes), which has walking and bike trails as well as a red kite feeding centre where you can see the big birds up close as they swoop in for their lunch.
