  • Touring pitches in Tagoat, 10 minutes’ drive from Rosslare Europort
  • Rosslare Beach 10 minutes’ drive; Hook Lighthouse 55 minutes
  • Small site with showers, toilets, electric hook-up and charging points
After crossing St George’s Channel (or the Celtic Sea if you’re travelling from Europe), chances are you’ll be ripe for a few days of R&R. Fortunately for you, Coral Gables Campervan Site is just a 10-minute drive from the ferry terminal at Rosslare Europort, providing a welcome stop after your journey at sea. The fully-serviced touring pitches occupy the grounds of a hilltop guesthouse just across the N25 from the village of Tagoat, and they come with expansive views of County Wexford’s splendid countryside. They also have most everything you need to replenish your (and your vehicle’s) energy: shower and toilet facilities, for starters, but also electric hook-up, a grey waste disposal area and charging points. Once you’re settled, you can start exploring your surrounds. Seaside enthusiasts might want to head to sandy Rosslare Beach (10 minutes’ drive), popular with swimmers and backed by vegetation-covered dunes. If you have a canine buddy, you might prefer to go to Carne Beach (10 minutes), where your dog can stretch its legs and jump into the shallow waters. For a hiking trail with a twist, drive to Our Lady's Island (10 minutes), a pilgrimage site on a peaceful lake that’s also a birdlife sanctuary. If you meditate better while scrambling up a hill and need something more challenging, you can have a go at the Forth Mountain Walk (half an hour). There’s a takeaway restaurant within a two-minute walk of the site and a pub not much further away (just across the N25); if you want to stock up on groceries, there’s a big supermarket in Rosslare Harbour (five minutes’ drive).

Powered grass and gravel tent campsite

Liked: Everything. From arrival to departure everything was just so smooth. Delightful greeting to us and our dog, information on things to do during our stay and a lovely chat. The Pet Wall of Fame is just adorable! No issues with noise, quiet friendly travellers, breakfast available in the B&B if needed (we camped, so cooked our own breakfast). Lovely Chinese 5 minute walk away. Small patch of grass in centre of site (for kids to play football/frisbee. 2 large picnic benches available to use. Just wish we could’ve stayed longer. The host is a ray of sunshine.

FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Located within 15 minutes of the port so great location for an early get away. You could order a cooked breakfast if you like as next to a B & B. Nice showers Walking distance to a pub

Disliked: The facilities were shared male & females so 2 toilets, 2 showers but only 1 sink. Light sensor doesn’t reach the showers so you need to open the door to activate.

FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Very close to Rosslare harbour Flat and ours was a large pitch Clean site Water points to the pitch Helpful and friendly owner Pet friendly

Disliked: Chemical disposal point was good but the water feed to swill out the cassette was not working. This may have been my misunderstanding on its use but we had to leave so couldn’t ask about it.

FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lovely, friendly welcome. Fantastic showers, well worth the euro, undercover pot wash, close to ferry port.

Disliked: Having to take rubbish home with you, the need for a key fob to access the shower (why?), only one sink to be shared by all.

FHU grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Small site well located within a few miles of Rosslare Ferry Terminal. Good hard standing pitch with ehu. Brilliant Chinese takeaway on the doorstep and pub with good Irish cooking just across the road.

Disliked: Our first experience of being charged extra to use a shower, which it turns out is quite a thing in Ireland.

Local attractions

The history of the Emerald Isle comes alive at the Irish National Heritage Park (15 minutes’ drive), an open-air museum on the site of an Anglo-Norman fort. Reconstructed sites here include a dolmen, a crannog (a building supported by stilts on water) and a Viking ship. There’s also a falconry centre where you can learn all about the resident birds of prey. If birdwatching is your thing, Wexford Wildfowl Reserve (half an hour) is where you want to be. This area of brackish water is a haven for dozens of breeding and migrating species, first among them the Greenland white-fronted goose, plus hares, foxes and (in the adjacent Raven Nature Reserve) red squirrels. The Hook Peninsula (55 minutes) has been home to a beacon for sailors ever since the 13th century, which makes the Hook Lighthouse the oldest such building in the world. If you’re prepared to climb the 115 steps to the top, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of this promontory stretching into the Celtic Sea.
