  • Peaceful riverside site five minutes’ drive from Pewsey in Wiltshire
  • Stonehenge, Silbury Hill and Avebury all 20 minutes’ drive
  • Direct access to a pub and beer garden; shops five minutes’ drive
Right in the centre of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape and hugging the banks of the River Avon, the family-friendly site at Wiltshire’s Woodbridge Inn offers up three acres of leafy grounds to spread out and relax in. Surrounded by sleepy rural hamlets with old-world names like Manningford Bruce and Honey Street, the site has a handy location five minutes’ drive from the pretty town of Pewsey, its shops and restaurants. And even handier, it comes with a pub attached to it. The Woodbridge is an 18th-century coaching inn well-known for its traditional Sunday roasts; the pub serves local beers brewed in Devizes and has a riverside beer garden with a play area for younger guests. You can also order picnic meals for your jaunts around the North Wessex Downs to mysterious Stonehenge and ethereal Avebury (both 20 minutes’ drive). Back on site, simple facilities include an up-cycled amenities hut with showers. You can go paddleboarding and fishing on the Avon, and there are plenty of riverside walks so you can exercise any canine chums who are along for the ride.

This campsite offers a relaxed vibe with a beautiful riverside setting, great for families. Visitors love the friendly staff, excellent pub food/drinks, and good value. Facilities are clean & functional with hot showers. Some note toilets/showers can be limited when busy, and bins/wash-up areas need more frequent cleaning. Adult-only pitch availability was unclear.

Primitive grass campsite (adults only)

Liked A fabulous site, really welcoming owners who walk you to choose where you would like to pitch. Great area. Literally attached to there Pub/Restaurant which the food was amazing. Would definitely return. Had an extra area with a kettle and a toaster for anyone to use. Good value for money.

Disliked Sadly for the size of the area, alas only one toilet for females to use so always a queue. Would improve immensely if they installed more toilets.

Power optional cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Quiet site
Facilities not far
Pitches good size
Pub and park on site

Disliked Toilets need updating and improving - broken seat, toilet wobbly, no toilet paper, hand drier not working and no paper towels available. No sanitary bin - just one bin in main toilet area. In shower cubicle no shelves or anywhere to put clothes or wash bag. Not very clean.

The ground un level in places. The grass needs a mow and there are spiky weeds not ideal for little ones.

Primitive cement/asphalt campsite

Liked Showers were wonderful really hot! Quiet pitch even though next to a read and a pub. Beautiful location with a river running through. Even when the site filled up it didn’t feel crowded and still peaceful. Staff friendly and helpful. Brilliant for visiting Avebury and Devizes and worth visiting!

Disliked I didn’t really dislike this but only one ladies toilet but choose your time for using and the pub was there when open. Chemical waste was a bit basic

Liked Play park accessible all the time, lovely countryside location.
Issue with electrics was sorted immediately (our fridge tripped it, not the sites fault) Toilet and showers were clean.

Disliked Pub was closed Monday and Tuesday so kids were disappointrd we couldnt go for dinner and the access to the River Avon for paddleboarding was a definate stretch of the imagination. Steep and overgrown banks made it impossible to access.

Liked A lovely little campsite…wonderful amenities, fantastic views, an abundance of local wildlife, lots of space between us and our ‘neighbours’, the site is set back away from the main roads. we really didn’t want to leave. Well definitely be going back 👍

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Ground was really good for pitching, plenty of flat space to choose from and some shaded spots too

Disliked The pub isn't open Sunday evening, Mondays or Tuesdays. Which was all of our stay. The river is also not currently navigable, partly due to water levels but also with more water it probably wouldn't be that suitable for paddle boarding as suggested in the advert

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Location options were varied with pitches available close to the Avon river, pitches away from the water (for childrens safety) and electric hook up away from the river and close to the road.

Disliked Toilet and shower facilities were sub-standard and desperately in need of updating. Only one toilet in both the mens and womens block. Electric hook ups near the river were out of commission.

Local attractions

If you’re keen to see some of the mysterious prehistoric relics littered about Wiltshire, head north to the vast stone circles at Avebury, or stop by conical Silbury Hill (both 20 minutes’ drive). Turn south from the site and you can be at Stonehenge, with its all-singing, all-dancing visitor centre, in 20 minutes too. Carry on to the ancient city of Salisbury (35 minutes) to visit the spiky-spired cathedral and Old Sarum Castle (half an hour). Devizes (20 minutes) has a famed brewery to tour, and there are spectacular downs views from the Caen Hill lock flight on the Kennet and Avon Canal just outside town. Another pretty canal-side walk takes in Pewsey Wharf (10 minutes), where scores of brightly coloured barges line the banks. When you want to stay closer to base camp and just potter about, there’s a trout fishery five minutes’ stroll down the road, or you can play a round or two of golf (five minutes’ drive). Take scenic walks along the River Avon from the site, or embark on longer hikes through the undulating North Wessex Downs countryside.
