  • Peaceful riverside site five minutes’ drive from Pewsey in Wiltshire
  • Stonehenge, Silbury Hill and Avebury all 20 minutes’ drive
  • Direct access to a pub and beer garden; shops five minutes’ drive
Right in the centre of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape and hugging the banks of the River Avon, the family-friendly site at Wiltshire’s Woodbridge Inn offers up three acres of leafy grounds to spread out and relax in. Surrounded by sleepy rural hamlets with old-world names like Manningford Bruce and Honey Street, the site has a handy location five minutes’ drive from the pretty town of Pewsey, its shops and restaurants. And even handier, it comes with a pub attached to it. The Woodbridge is an 18th-century coaching inn well-known for its traditional Sunday roasts; the pub serves local beers brewed in Devizes and has a riverside beer garden with a play area for younger guests. You can also order picnic meals for your jaunts around the North Wessex Downs to mysterious Stonehenge and ethereal Avebury (both 20 minutes’ drive). Back on site, simple facilities include an up-cycled amenities hut with showers. You can go paddleboarding and fishing on the Avon, and there are plenty of riverside walks so you can exercise any canine chums who are along for the ride.

Non-electric grass pitch (adults only)

Liked: Location is in a lovely setting.
Pub on site is a great help
Staff were really friendly in the pub too.
Food was good in the pub.

Disliked: Check in was non existent. You call the number on the gate and they say "Go in and find a spot". We booked an adult only pitch, or so we thought but that was nowhere to be found or there was no one to show us at least.

No one to show you where everything was either, you are literally left to find everything yourself.

The facilities left a lot to be desired too. The womens toilets ran out of toilet paper early in the night so good luck ladies. I'd bring your own toilet paper!

The facilities are a bit rough and ready but we didn't mind. We just felt they were very neglected in regards to upkeep and cleaning. All the bins were overflowing. Toilets/showers needed cleaning more regularly. Kitchen wash up area was messy. Drinking water tap leaking and buried in uncut grass. Not enough toilets/showers for the amount of campers.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice site, very peaceful. Pub, beer garden and play park facilities were very good and great for families. Owners nice and friendly.

Disliked: 1 toilet per sex was absolutely not enough and led to queues during our stay. This needs to be addressed immediately.

The advertised on site paddle boarding is also not possible. Do not expect to paddle board from this site.

Electric optional hardstanding pitch

Liked: We were particularly impressed by the thoughtful separation of camping areas, with dedicated family-friendly grass pitches and separate adult-only grass pitches, ensuring a peaceful stay for everyone.

The availability of electric hardstanding pitches is also a great bonus for tourers.

The pub garden is a real highlight, providing a lovely space to relax and soak in the riverside views.

For families, the play park is a fantastic addition, keeping the children entertained while parents can unwind.

As dog lovers ourselves, we also appreciated that four-legged friends were made to feel welcome.

Whether you're looking for a relaxing drink by the river, a family-friendly camping getaway, or a convenient stopover for your tourer, The Woodbridge Inn seems to tick all the boxes.

We'd certainly recommend a visit!

Disliked: It was a bit of a disappointment to discover that the neighbouring lake is exclusively for private members of the trout club, meaning a pleasant stroll around its perimeter isn't possible.

Non-electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: Ease of finding it. Right next to a lovely pub. Good variety of food and drink available. Good prices
Hard stand pitch and electric available. Quiet and greeted with a friendly smile.

Disliked: Not close to any other pubs/shops. Only 1 toilet and 2 showers for each sex so maybe a problem if it was busy.
Not major issues.

Local attractions

If you’re keen to see some of the mysterious prehistoric relics littered about Wiltshire, head north to the vast stone circles at Avebury, or stop by conical Silbury Hill (both 20 minutes’ drive). Turn south from the site and you can be at Stonehenge, with its all-singing, all-dancing visitor centre, in 20 minutes too. Carry on to the ancient city of Salisbury (35 minutes) to visit the spiky-spired cathedral and Old Sarum Castle (half an hour). Devizes (20 minutes) has a famed brewery to tour, and there are spectacular downs views from the Caen Hill lock flight on the Kennet and Avon Canal just outside town. Another pretty canal-side walk takes in Pewsey Wharf (10 minutes), where scores of brightly coloured barges line the banks. When you want to stay closer to base camp and just potter about, there’s a trout fishery five minutes’ stroll down the road, or you can play a round or two of golf (five minutes’ drive). Take scenic walks along the River Avon from the site, or embark on longer hikes through the undulating North Wessex Downs countryside.
