What customers say

This woodland campsite offers a relaxed, "wild camping" feel with spacious, private pitches and campfire facilities. Visitors praise the friendly staff, plentiful activities for children, and clean, well-maintained basic amenities. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few guests noted issues with uneven pitches, occasional noise from other campers, and expensive activities.

Primitive forest floor tent campsite

Liked I loved being able to choose my own pitch and being that it wasn't busy I had the whole site to choose from. I was a lone camper with my dog and felt safe enough. The facilities where clean enough bearing in mind it's based on wild camping.
Although I didn't see them, there was activities for the children over the weekend and from what I could hear the kids were having a great time.
Aside from the children having fun, it's a very quiet site. There's plenty of places to walk the dog without really leaving the area.
There's lovely beaches, with an area sectioned off for dogs to have off-lead fun, about 15 minutes car ride away.
All in all I had a lovely long weekend.

Disliked Wasn't too keen on the toilets, but they were clean. But everything else was great.

Liked The woodland is really nice, the kids playground is great.

Disliked My BIGGEST concern is that on the advert it says "Gas & electricity included" but there is no electricity, so we were not prepared with power banks etcetera. We ended up spending most of our time at a different campsite around the corner where someone we knew was staying, as they had electricity and great facilities. When I checked the prices for other campsites in the area I was extremely annoyed too see that other campsites offered much better facilities for cheaper prices. PS. the way you reply to reviews is appalling so please don't even bother :)

From the manager: Really glad to hear you enjoyed our woodland and kids’ playground. We’ve put a lot of love (and more than a few splinters) into making those spaces fun for families.

As you’ve taken the time to leave us a review, we thought it only polite to take the time to reply:

On the electricity point, we’re sorry if there was any confusion. Our site is very much about getting close to “wild camping,” with just a few added comforts like compost loos, washing-up sinks, and a couple of basic showers. We don’t offer electric hook-ups, and our glamping tents come with gas cookers and battery-powered lanterns (maybe that’s where the wires got crossed or in this case, not crossed at all!). We’ve always been big believers in truly switching off while camping.

It’s true that Dorset has some brilliant award-winning campsites with luxury shower blocks, shops, and more plugs than you can shake a phone charger at. But that’s not really our vibe and we hope our website and Pitchup page make that pretty clear.

Finally, on replies to reviews, we actually think it’s important to respond, even to the more negative ones. It gives future guests a real sense of what we’re about, and sometimes a laugh too. We know we’re not for everyone, but plenty of people love what we offer, and we’re proud to stick to it.

Liked Our 3 and 6 year olds loved the play area, especially the mud kitchen, trampoline and fort. There are several shelters around and on the whole its really impressive especially the eco friendly facilities which were completely functional. My little one even loved the showers. We stayed in the Bell Tent which is well thought out with everything you need provided. Loved it!

Primitive forest floor tent campsite

Liked This was our first time camping as a family and it was an amazing experience. We loved the wild camping vibe, it really added to the adventure. There’s a wide variety of large, well-spaced pitches to choose from, each with its own campfire. The site never felt overcrowded like some others, which made it even more enjoyable.

It’s very family friendly, with plenty of activities and fun for the kids. The compost toilets were clean and regularly maintained, and the showers were excellent, hot, powerful, and with plenty of space to get dressed inside.

The staff were fantastic: James and Becky were so welcoming, helpful, and approachable. We also loved our daily visits from the “big boss” Daisy, though she was always busy making her rounds!

The washing up facilities were great too, with hot water always available. Overall, we had a brilliant stay and will definitely be returning.

Bramble Nook bell tent

Liked We had a wonderful stay at Adventure Pirate. The whole campsite was great with so much to do for the kids. They loved the freedom of being able to safely play in the woods.
Becky who was onsite most of the time and in the little snack shack was absolutely amazing. Great with the kids and really friendly and helpful.
The showers and toilets were always clean and the facilities for getting water, washing up etc were great.
We stayed in the Bell tent which was fantastic. Had everything we needed provided in there and the beds were super comfy. The spot we had was lovely with it's own firepit, BBQ, outside seating area and beautiful views.
There is also loads to do outside the camp that are close by so you have so many options for days/trips or activities out.
I would highly recommend visiting here. Our kids were asking when we were coming back as we were packing up the car to leave. We will definitely be back.

Primitive forest floor tent campsite

Liked Lots of pitch sites to chose from and all good size. We enjoyed exploring the woods around the camp site. The area for kids to play in is amazing with something for everyone to enjoy, having travelled with 3 kids- 16, 6 and 1 they were never bored. The toilets and area to wash up were always clean. Kids enjoyed helping to build a fire and toasting Marshmallows.

Local attractions

Activities aren't limited to the site – and that’s for certain at Farmer Palmer's Farm Park (five minutes’ drive). As well as bringing together a farm fantasy with interactive animal activities, this site has indoor and outdoor play areas and woodland trails and a maze (perhaps one of the only places you’ll want to get lost on purpose). Local beaches could certainly count as a playground of their own too, as beach sports and watersports are available for a chock-a-block day in Bournemouth (25 minutes), a nice contrast to the more austere Victorian parks and gardens, museums and galleries in the town. Then, of course, there’s Poole (10 minutes), with the riveting water rides at Splashdown and the harbour for windsurfing, kayaking and the works. You’ll surely want to take a bite out of the Jurassic Coast too, given that it’s only half an hour’s drive away. Whether it’s a scramble over Dancing Ledge (half an hour), a climb to see Old Harry Rocks (half an hour) or a duck into the old quarry caves at Winspit Quarry (35 minutes), this scenic part of the coast is crammed with beauty spots.
