  • Family-friendly park just outside Charmouth on the Jurassic Coast
  • Pools, play areas and indoor play
  • Modern amenities including hot showers and a launderette
There’s nothing fossilised about a stay at Newlands Holiday Park, a stone’s throw away from the Jurassic Coast on the Devon/Dorset border, where the staff and facilities should cater to your every holiday need. For example, this lush place has two separate play areas for the mini guests. There's also an indoor heated pool – and an outdoor one with loungers so you can bask in the sun and wonder where the kids get all that energy… More? There's an indoor soft play area. Also use family-run Newlands as a base for a Lyme Regis fossil-hunting holiday or just lounge about on site; either way, epic times are on the cards. The 23-acre landscaped park has all the facilities you’d expect from a thoroughly modern site: internet access and clean up-to-date amenities including hot showers and a launderette. Half a mile from Newlands, the World Heritage village of Charmouth has shops, restaurants and pubs… and is also known for its hardy souls taking to the sea in fancy dress on Christmas Day.

Liked: Nice campsite with good location and facilities. Good swimming pools and a very good playground for younger children. Easy access to Charmouth and Lyme Regis by bus. Shop and staff were great.

Disliked: Our pitch was on a slope which caused problems with sleeping and cooking. We thought the pitches were a bit tight. Also, due to the terracing we felt we were overlooking groups further down the slope.

Liked: Newlands is a lovely well cared for site. The facilities are great. Brilliant pool and bar/restaurant. We were enjoyed delicious meals. We stayed on the touring caravan pitches which were well maintained and spacious.
The children loved the playground and spent many hours there.
We will definitely revisit.

Disliked: The only additional thing which would have improved our stay and I know this won’t affect all others is as we had a baby with us is if there was a large sink or small bath in the family shower room. This would have been great.

Liked: This is our second visit and got a hard standing pitch as the last grass pitch was a muddy mess. the pitch was fine although a little tight on the length. Site is clean and well maintained. Booked a Sunday cavery and that was a good sized meal. Decent shop on site if your short of anything

Disliked: Given the price of the pitches it seems a rip off to have to pay for swimming extra, given there are plenty of sites with pools in Dorset where it is included in your pitch price. Noise from A35 can be very load and all night

Liked: The friendliness of the staff and people staying at Newlands holiday park, we took our 1year old son camping with us and weren’t shy of people we could go to for help at the park. Plenty of things for us all to do that included our young child and look forward to going back soon!

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
