  • Friendly site 20 minutes' drive from the centre of Bournemouth
  • Sociable atmosphere that respects guests' peace and quiet
  • Dogs welcome; water-based activities nearby in Bournemouth
If your destination is Dorset-based, farm yourself out to the friendly folk at St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park. Just a 20-minute drive from the centre of Bournemouth, half an hour from Poole and 15 minutes from the New Forest National Park, it should make an excellent base to get out and explore from. This is a place that has sparkling clean loos, toasty hot water for showers and washing up, and well-marked-out pitches – clearly the owners know what guests want. Canine campers are also welcome too. If you want to sizzle your own sausages, saving one for the dog, you can exchange gas cylinders on site. There are two major supermarkets within five minutes’ drive, two pubs within a mile and a number of nearby restaurants if you’re feeling lazy/thirsty. St Leonards Farm Caravan & Camping Park is a sociable but quiet site and has a 'no noise after 11pm' policy – most welcome if you’re getting up at the crack of dawn for some seaside exploring. The security gates are locked at night for safety and security; there's overnight parking outside of the security gates if you need it, so check at reception to find out the exact times the gates are opened and closed.

What customers say

This family-friendly campsite gets high marks for its prime location, spotless facilities, and welcoming staff. Sites are usually roomy and kept up well. Guests rave about the awesome playground, soft play barn, and nearby conveniences. Most visitors loved their stay and plan to come back, though a few noted dated facilities, occasional road noise, and inconsistent shower water pressure. A solid choice, especially for families.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Its a lively site with lots of people and families. Access to pay area and play barn was amazing for our 14mnth old. Cows in the back field grazing was cool and being able to walk to restaurants and shop was really handy and good location for visiting New Forest, Poole and Bournemouth

Disliked Toilets/showers very basic and abit of a walk if staying in the back field. Management of plots could have been better as we were put in a drive way through to the end of the field which wasn't ideal but then on night 3 (we stayed 4 nights) everyone else left our field and 1 arrival came, who was put in the pitch directly opposite. Very odd considering the amount of other space available and it made the drive through even tighter, not ideal for kids.

Liked Lovely level pitches within well kept grounds.

Disliked Very basic washroom facilities that require a refresh. Showers were not the cleanest and it’s very hard having to press the on button as they only remain on for about 20-30 seconds. Low water pressure. Not enough pegs for clothes/towel.
Toilets difficult to flush due to water pressure.

Liked Great location for area. Easy access, lovely driveway with flower borders.secure gated access with no. Plate recognition barrier. Pitches nicely laid out in hedged fields. Food vans on site each evening. Free showers but need to keep button pressed to maintain flow. Safe area for small children with play park

Disliked Speed humps very severe & steep, needed to be made more gentle. Main toilet block not always in cleanest condition ,showers had no shelf with large screws for hanging cloths on . Need an update. Pitches so close I had neighbour reverse into my car! Dogs not always on leads.

Liked Great location and wonderful wardens, very friendly site.

Disliked Toilets/showers desperately need modernising. A little investment would really benefit the site.
Sadly no hot water for a couple of days, they had to wait for a part to come to fix it.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked NONE

Disliked Avoid at all cost! Pitch is small, very close to each other, even don't have any space after parking cars. There was no hot water on the second day when I took shower! It was cold water only. People were also questioning why there was no hot water for washing! The hand dryer in the female toilet didnt work on the first day and third day of my stay. People near me just put on music loudly on the three days that we stayed and they talked really loud until late at night and in the early morning!

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Unfortunately we did have an issue with hot water whereby the control panel for the main water heater suffered a major fault leading to an intermittent supply of hot water. We had our Gas Safe Engineer out and parts were ordered as quickly as possible but of course that did take some time. However there showers/loos/washing up area in the first field was working throughout. Regarding noise, if you have an issue with loud music /talking after curfew, then please let staff know at the time so they can speak to those concerned and deal with the matter. We did put up signs when the hot water was off. Again sorry but there was little we could do at the time other than order the parts as quickly as possible and get them fitted.

Local attractions

St Leonards Farm is one of the closest sites to Bournemouth, with sandy beaches only seven miles away. There’s loads to do nearby if you’re feeling full of beans – try watersports such as windsurfing, sailing or surfing at Bournemouth’s artificial reef, or get busy with some go-karting, dry slope skiing, golf, fishing or horse-riding in the scenic surrounding countryside. Feeling a bit tired after all that sporty exertion? Take a picnic to nearby Moors Valley Country Park, which has a golf course, cycling routes and outdoor play area, or have a family day out at a plethora of local attractions including Paultons Park, Marwell Zoo, Beaulieu Motor Museum and Wimborne Minster Model Town. Kids will likely enjoy fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast, and if they’re disappointed by not finding a T-rex skeleton right there and then, you can take them along to the Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, then spoil them with a day out at Adventure Wonderland less than three miles from the park. The site is also an ideal stopover point for the Poole or Portsmouth cross-channel ferries.
