  • Food shop and wifi on site; five minutes' drive to Lynmouth harbour
In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

What customers say

This well-kept, welcoming campground boasts amazing views and spotless, modern amenities (even a dishwasher!). Staff are consistently helpful. Popular hikes nearby are often steep. While most enjoy the quiet, the exposed site can be windy, and shower timers sometimes annoy. Pitches vary, some with slight slopes.

Bay View powered grass and gravel campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Overall very lovely park; clean, tidy, and well looked after.

Disliked Booked a Bay View pitch hoping to have a morning and evening view over the Channel from our tent, however ended up with pitch 7 which offered no view as was blocked by other tents and trees.

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review 😊🌿 We’re really pleased to hear you found the park clean, tidy and well looked after. ✨

We’re sorry, however, that pitch 7 didn’t provide the Bay View you were hoping for. 🌊 We completely understand how disappointing that must have been, especially when you were looking forward to enjoying the Channel views from your tent. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and will take your comments on board🙏

We hope we’ll have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a pitch that allows you to enjoy those beautiful views next time. 💙🌅

Liked I loved the area the staff were so accommodating and professional.
Definitely will book again.

Disliked Although there was no continuous flow regarding the showers. Used one hand pressed on the button for continuous use.
The Company is aware of this problem and will address this matter when the site is closed for the season as it can only be remedied when customers are not on site.

We really appreciate your patience and understanding regarding the shower issue. 🚿 As you mentioned, we’re aware of it and will be addressing it.

Thank you too for your suggestion about the shop opening hours. 🛍️ We’ll certainly take this on board and see what may be possible in addition to our 7pm closing time on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.

We look forward to welcoming you back and hope you’ll enjoy an even better shower experience next time! 😊🏕️

Beggar's Field powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely site - friendly staff, lovely facilities, beautiful area. Onsite food van and dog walking area was a real bonus. Lots of "extras" that made the stay feel special such as herb garden, book swap, visits from local food providers, tea towels etc provided, area to freeze ice blocks.
Clear they cared alot about the facilities - with squigees to be used on shower walls etc
Beautiful views, lovely highland cow neighbours!

Disliked The pitch we had was right on the edge and seemed small and cramped - possibly due to its odd shape or our neighbours going right to the edge of ours. Was also right by the walking exit so was very public.
Apart from a small, hilly field at reception no real area for kids to play.
And this is a real silly thing - the showers are super close to the wall so for those of who have a "few curves" - youre touching the wall to shower! Push button didnt last long and pressure went when other people in the block but lovely and warm, great size too.

We’re sorry the pitch felt cramped and that the shower space wasn’t quite as generous as you’d have liked! 😅🚿 We really appreciate your honest feedback and will take your comments on board.

Local attractions

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
