  • Peaceful Lynmouth site with views over the Bristol Channel
  • In Exmoor National Park, 30 minutes' drive to Ilfracombe and Minehead
  • Food shop and wifi on site; five minutes' drive to Lynmouth harbour
In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

Liked Beautiful views, excellent facilities that are kept extremely clean. Friendly welcome and the bonus of hot food and cocktails as well.

Disliked Quite a few have mentioned it in previous reviews but the push button showers can be frustrating as you have to keep pressing them every few seconds.. however I feel I’m being a bit picky!!

Bay View powered grass and gravel campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great pitch sizes, was in bay view pitch 5, wasnt a full view of sea as the pitches in front covered it but still Great.
Facilities were immaculate, best site ive been on. As it was super hot we kept buying ice from the shop, one day thwy had run out but one of the workers offered to grab some after he finished work, he brought it to our pitch few hours later!! Was amazing. If you want sea view I would recommend pitches 9-12 bay view

Beggar's Field powered gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (water hook-up)

Liked We loved everything from the reception desk to the secure dog field. The toilet/shower block was so clean. There was even ice in the freezer we could help ourselves to. We enjoyed a couple of cocktails from the food trailer after a long walk down to Lynmouth which went down a treat. We love walking and it was all walking distance to Lynmouth, Lynton and the Valley of the Rocks. We even saw the most incredible sunset during our stay. We had an electric and water gravel pitch which was PERFECT and a nice bit of shade for our dog. Thought the 10pm noise curfew was sufficient and respectful and suited us well. The site was really pretty and well maintained and thought out. Discreet bin area, dog shower, and phone charger hire. Great location and we’d certainly recommend it and stay again. We were checked in by Dan who was really friendly, chatty and gave us some great local recommendations of places to go. Thank you.

Disliked We were warned about ticks and unfortunately all got one but it does say in the retreats website to bring a tick remover which was recommended. This clearly isn’t the campsite fault so not really a negative.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review of Lyntmouth Holiday Retreat 😊

We’re really pleased you enjoyed so many parts of your stay—from the spotless facilities and secure dog field 🐾 to the electric and water gravel pitch, shaded areas, and those little touches like the free ice, discreet bins, dog shower, and phone charger hire. It’s great to hear the 10pm quiet time worked well for you too 🌙

We’ll pass your kind words on to Dan as well—he’ll be delighted to know his friendly welcome and local recommendations helped set you up for a great stay 👍

It sounds like you really made the most of the walking routes to Lynmouth, Lynton, and the Valley of the Rocks 🚶‍♀️🌿 and catching that incredible sunset must have been a real highlight 🌅

Also, thank you for the lovely photos you shared 📸—they’re genuinely beautiful and really show off how scenic and well-kept the retreat is.

We appreciate you recommending us, and we’d love to welcome you back again in the future! 😊

Beggar's Field powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great well kept clean site. Dog friendly. Lovely views and good walks around the site. Good facilities and a lovely welcome for our first time there.

Disliked Only reason for no giving it a 10* is that the showers did not stay on for very long which was a pain but manageable. Also a very windy location but I know that cannot be helped.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely review 😊 We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed the clean and well-kept site, the beautiful views and walks, and that both you and your dog felt so welcome 🐶💚

We also really appreciate your feedback about the showers 🚿 We understand the timer can be a little frustrating and we’ll certainly take your comments on board.
As for the wind, being in such an open location does make us a bit breezy at times!

We’re so pleased you enjoyed your first stay with us and we hope to welcome you back again. ✨

Local attractions

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
