  • Peaceful Lynmouth site with views over the Bristol Channel
  • In Exmoor National Park, 30 minutes' drive to Ilfracombe and Minehead
  • Food shop and wifi on site; five minutes' drive to Lynmouth harbour
In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

Beggar's Field powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great well kept clean site. Dog friendly. Lovely views and good walks around the site. Good facilities and a lovely welcome for our first time there.

Disliked Only reason for no giving it a 10* is that the showers did not stay on for very long which was a pain but manageable. Also a very windy location but I know that cannot be helped.

Beggar's Field powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked On arrival everything was very clean, well load out and the guys in reception were polite and friendly, location is great a short walk to lynmouth and if you’ve got the legs a short walk back up, facilities were immaculate

Disliked Only down side was the showers , cold and short intervals so got to keep pushing button, but a small downside compared to all the positives this campsite offers

We’re really pleased to hear you enjoyed the location, friendly welcome from the reception team, and our clean, well-maintained facilities ✨🏕️

It’s great that you were able to enjoy the walk into Lynmouth too — although we know the walk back certainly keeps the legs working! ⛰️😊

We also appreciate your feedback regarding the showers. Your comments are valuable to us, and we’ll certainly take them on board as we continue looking for ways to improve our guests’ experience.

We hope to welcome you back again for another stay soon! 😊

The View FHU cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked The View and the peacefulness. It was a quiet site when we visited which was good. The showers and toilets were very clean and the showers were nice and hot. Great for walking.

Disliked They aren’t the biggest of pitches and we were lucky that we were separated by hedges. Some of the other pitches are very open. Due to the location the shop could be better stocked.

Liked we loved the views and having the little van that sold some very nice cocktails was a bonus

Disliked the shower block although was always clean and plenty of toilets and showers the thing that let them down was they were of the push button type and only lasted just a second or two i we did try a few different ones whilst we were there but a lass they were all the same

Beggar's Field powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked - Spacious pitches
- Felt private - well throughout out layout of types of pitches and campsite in general.
- Electricity is included in price
- Amenities/facilities were the best we have experienced: clean indoor washing up area, industrial dishwasher, clean showers and loos, family shower room, food truck, herb garden.
- Wonderful views
- The staff were really friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

We will definitely be coming back again and will be recommending it to anyone who is heading to that area.

Disliked The shower pressure wasn't amazing even when quiet but it was fine and easy to forgive given the rest of the site is so good.

Local attractions

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
