In need of a Devon des res with smashing views? Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is a quiet site in the hills above Lynton and Lynmouth in the Exmoor National Park. As it's got direct access to the A39, it's a top contender if you're looking for a base to explore the Devon and Somerset coast. Needless to say, there's plenty of stunning scenery around here: keep your eyes peeled for resident wildlife like wild ponies, red deer and birds of prey. The surrounding countryside is also full of trails for rural rambles, including the long-distance South West Coast Path. Dogs are welcome at the site and direct access to footpaths makes it a breeze to keep Fido fit and healthy. Lynmouth Holiday Retreat has plenty of practical benefits too: facilities include a food shop, wifi, a washing-up area and a launderette to keep your gear spick and span. If you find yourself getting peckish, feel free to set up a barbecue, order a takeaway or head down into Lynton (five minutes away) to stock up at the supermarket. You'll likely want to linger here for a stroll around its picture-worthy cottages, fishing boats and genteel Victorian buildings. Alternatively, forage for your own supper by taking the kids crabbing down at Lynmouth harbour (five minutes' drive).

Rabbit Field powered gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked Plenty of space per pitch. Facilities were great and very well maintained and cleaned. Plenty of recycling bins which were regularly emptied. Great views from many pitches. Incredibly well organised and laid out site with many thoughtful touches (eg. bakery deliveries).

A group of 7 of us stayed in a mix of camper vans, tents, glamping pods & glamping dome. All were extremely happy with their accommodation and the facilities.

Liked Sehr ruhiger, idyllischer Campingplatz. Die Waschmöglichkeiten sind modern und ganztägig sehr sauber. Es riecht immer frisch. Vor Ort gibt es einen Foodtruck, bei dem man vormittags Frühstück und nachmittags bis abends Essen und Getränke bekommt. Zusätzlich gibt es dort Milchshakes und Cocktails. An der Rezeption kann man ebenfalls Backwaren für den nächsten Morgen bestellen. Alle Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Es war ein wunderbarer Aufenthalt. Ein Auto vor Ort ist von Vorteil, wenn man umliegende Sehenswürdigkeiten besuchen möchte.

Liked A nice site with very friendly helpful staff and good facilities that were kept immaculately clean.
A large dog field is a big plus for pooches to have an off leash run around.
It was nice to have on site catering, although the choice was limiting for a vegetarian and healthy options would be welcome

Disliked Location! A very steep walk down to towns with no bus route option. Nothing to do in the immediate vicinity that doesn’t include a steep climb or descent

We’re also sorry that the steep walks and lack of a nearby bus route made exploring the area more difficult than you had expected. The surrounding landscape is naturally hilly, and we understand that this may not suit everyone, particularly guests looking for flat walking routes or easy access to amenities. Many of our guests choose this location specifically for its beautiful views, tranquillity, and peaceful rural setting. The seclusion and scenery are a big part of its charm, and for many visitors the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, quiet surroundings, and stunning outlook more than makes up for the steeper walks.

Liked Stunning site with amazing views and very tranquil. Pitches are all great no matter where you are, lots of space and also nice to have your own dedicated area. Facilities were spot on, extremely clean and looked after. Handy launderette room too. Bbq night was on the Monday whilst we were there, highly recommend going early on or pre ordering as they did run out of a lot of things by 6:30pm. Handy food and drinks van which sells a range of cocktails and food too, opens 8am-11am as they off breakfast rolls and then opens again 4pm-8pm.

It is in the middle of nowhere, that’s fine, it’s a retreat! But it would be nice to have a shuttle bus / car into Lynmouth a couple of times a day as it’s so beautiful and would be a nice option.

Local attractions

Guests here have plenty of attractions and activities on their doorstep in and around Lynton and Lynmouth (five minutes' drive). For a novel way to travel between the two, try the funicular cliff railway that connects the twin towns. In the surrounding countryside, you can marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the Rocks (10 minutes) or head out to the forest around Watersmeet (15 minutes) for waterfalls and an elegant Victorian tea room. Many head to this part of the country in search of outdoor pursuits, so sporty types may well be pleased to learn that Lynmouth Holiday Retreat is close to a stables (10 minutes), fishing lake (20 minutes) and golf club (40 minutes). To really get that blood pumping, hike some or all of the 14 miles along the coast to Combe Martin, a hilly stretch of the South West Coast Path that includes this trail's highest point. You may, of course, prefer a day lounging on the beach (and with beaches like these, who can blame you?). Top seaside towns nearby include Minehead, with its rockpools, and Ilfracombe with its castle and aquarium (both half an hour away).
