  • Old-fashioned site with modern facilities
  • A 10-minute walk to beach, dunes and nature reserve of Dawlish Warren
  • Seven acres of grassland in a secluded setting
Old-style camping with new-style facilities, 10 minutes' walk from the Devon coastline and 25 minutes from a 500-acre nature reserve stuffed with species of all sorts… You might want two weeks (at least) at Leadstone Camping in Dawlish Warren, 15 minutes' drive away from Teignmouth and 35 minutes from Torquay. This very friendly site, which has been around since 1974, one of those where the staff do their utmost to make sure guests have the nicest time possible: although this is traditional and uncommercialised camping, standards are modern, including a redeveloped amenities block with showers, toilets, hot water basins, a hairdryer, baby changing unit and an accessible room with shower, toilet and wash basin. Leadstone also has a launderette, playground, washing-up facilities and water points in the pitching fields. For other supplies and nosh, a supermarket is a mile away, and anyone walking the 10 minutes to Dawlish Warren will find a pub serving lunch and evening meals handily placed along the way. It's also possible to walk to the South West Coast Path within 10 minutes or walk/cycle around half a mile to the Exe Cycle Trail or the circular six-mile Dawlish Discovery Walk.

What customers say

Fantastic location near Dawlish Warren and town. Facilities are clean, staff are friendly and helpful. Guests love the spacious pitches and quiet vibe. Food vans and shop a plus. Just a heads-up on shower fees and possible noise from next door.

Liked Just beautiful, facilities amazing so clean and fresh, friendly staff, pitches very generous and we were the only ones in our field so win win! Easy walk to beach and pubs and a hotel with a view 3 minute walk away! We only live 30 minutes away so will definitely go back for some peaceful tranquility

Disliked Nothing, weather was lush and site quiet

Badger powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Friendly, immaculately clean, welcoming site which is very well maintained and secure.
Spacious pitches and no problems with the electric hook up. Fantastic washing up facilities and opportunity to use small freezer for ice packs. Very dog friendly.
Amanda's on site catering was well priced and delicious. We enjoyed the pulled pork and chicken curry dishes during the easter weekend. Again very friendly and welcoming setvice. (Not always on site)
Location is excellent, with great links to Dawlish and Dawlish Warren. We also enjoyed the recommendation to the forest fungi cafe next door for a hearty delicious breakfast with immaculate service and dog friendly.

Disliked The power from the shower heads meant that you were showering almost against the wall and every shower had a quirk so the same setting on the dial didnt give the sane temperature - hot or cold.
We had to queue for the shower during the easter weekend, when not at full capacity.

Fox powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked Excellent site. Well maintained pitches - you will need the chocks for the van. Some insulation but nothing too drastic.
Site contains a number of fields, all clearly marked and separated by high hedges.
Facilities on site: small shop, toilets and showers (20p reqd), on site coffee/food van. All excellent - toilets are immaculate. Showers are hot- water pressure can be a bit hit and miss.
Small
Playground for children. Plenty of space for ball games.

Fox powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite (large)

Liked The management team were polite and accommodating. We arrived ridiculously early due to travelling on a BH but they allowed us to set up. Nice big pitches. Site was clean & kempt. Small take away cafe onsite.

Disliked Had to pay 20p for showers, this is our first time having to pay for showers when your already paying £30+ pn, I feel this is a bit cheeky. Also they was unisex, ok for some but not for me so I used the only shower in the female block. I’d imagine it gets pretty busy at peak times also. Take plenty of chucks as the ground is quite unlevel. WiFi is available at £5 pd, luckily our own network was strong enough for us not to have to pay that amount

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, We are glad you enjoyed your stay and will return again when your in the area, We have a total of 9 showers so when we are busy the 20p for 5 minuets keeps the flow and stops ques from forming. We find 1 x 20p is usually enough for a good shower :)
See you soon

Local attractions

Leadstone Camping's location makes it easy to get to most of Devon's attractions and it's simple to get from the site to wherever takes your fancy. Roads are relatively quiet for most of the year, apart from in high season. A mile away is the Exe estuary – another top local spot and a hit for fishing, hiking, biking and birdwatching – and the town of Dawlish itself is a mile and a half away: look out for the famous black swans. Also nearby is the harbour and two good pubs at Cockwood, two and a half miles away, and golf at Starcross before taking the ferry from here to Exmouth. Shaldon (15 minutes) has another golf course and can be reached by ferry from the busy resort of Teignmouth. For towns, take off to Exminster (20 minutes; more golf), Torquay (40 minutes), Newton Abbot (half an hour; racecourse and ancient market), Exeter (40 minutes) and Paignton (40 minutes; take the steam railway from here to Kingswear and Dartmouth).
