  • Winchester, Stonehenge and Paultons Park within 40 minutes' drive
  • Easy access from the A27; kitchen and bathroom in each tent
Getting your fix of rural life is a cinch when you’re staying at Gambledown Farm – this family-run Hampshire glamping site is not far off the A27, so easy to get in and out without navigating lots of little country lanes. Once you’re in, getting settled should be straightforward too, as you’ll be moving into a spacious safari tent that’s already kitted out with lots of the things you’ll need for a comfy stay. Beds will already be made up, and your tent also has a sofa, a kitchenette (with gas hob) and an internal bathroom (with toilet and hot shower). There’s a woodburning stove too, so you may want to start off by giving that a bit of a feed. Or, if it’s a sunny day, perhaps it’ll be straight out onto the deck, where chairs and a picnic table await for your alfresco meals and drinks, and a firepit is surrounded by tree stump stools for when you need to keep warm later on. What will you cook? If it’s eggs you’re after, you can add chicken coop hire to your booking and start the day by plucking fresh eggs straight from the straw for your breakfast… This location 10 minutes’ drive from Romsey isn’t just a handy one for easy arrivals – it also puts you within a short drive of all sorts of days out, including animal spotting at Marwell Zoo, a taste of history at Stonehenge or taking walks in the New Forest National Park. Having the market town so close by is also useful for the practicalities of life, as it’s got plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants to choose from. Dogs are welcome for an additional charge.

Local attractions

Once you’ve spotted a few animals on the farm, how about setting off to see some of their more exotic cousins? Marwell Zoo and the Hawk Conservancy (both half an hour’s drive) are good places to start, and there are more furry beasts to see at Paultons Park (15 minutes), where you may also spot a certain famous character at Peppa Pig World… If it’s outdoor activities that have brought you to this part of the world, head to Moors Valley Country Park (35 minutes) for bike rides, fishing and a Go Ape trail, or aim for the New Forest National Park for walks, horse riding and the New Forest Water Park (half an hour). Mixing in a bit of history should be simple too, as you’ll be within easy reach of places like Winchester (35 minutes), Stonehenge (40 minutes) and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (40 minutes). The Army Flying Museum (20 minutes) and National Motor Museum, Beaulieu (half an hour) are also close by for a different take on the past.
