  • Small family-run East Sussex site close to Sedlescombe
  • A 10-minute drive from Battle; 20 minutes from south coast beaches
  • Dog-friendly site next to Brede High Woods for walks
Being out in proper countryside is fabulous, of course – but so is being able to walk to the nearest village for a drink when you want to. Ticking both of those boxes in one excellent location is Seven Acre Woods, a quiet woodland site in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Stay here and you’ll be on a friendly site that’s all set up to help you make the most of outdoor life – there’s a no-music policy throughout so that the place stays nicely peaceful for resident wildlife and for your fellow guests. Facilities, meanwhile, cover all the essentials without going overboard: guests have access to showers, toilets and charging facilities, plus a play area where the kids can let off a bit of steam. No doubt you’ll want to spend a fair amount on site here, perhaps strolling in the woods (with a dog by your side if you wish) or tending a barbecue for an alfresco dinner. But there may well also be times when you fancy heading out – and that’s easily done here, as you can walk directly to the local village of Sedlescombe along public footpaths, including one that takes you through the bluebells and wild garlic patches of Brede High Woods. Lots more of East Sussex’s best days out are close by while staying at Seven Acre Woods – you might like to head down to the coast, visit the area’s castles, learn all about the goings-on of 1066 in Battle or simply stroll around pretty villages finding farm shops and pubs…

Liked: It was an incredibly clean and family-friendly camping site. The creative kids’ play area was truly impressive, and our whole family, including our child, had a joyful time. Even the goats and cats added a lovely touch to the campground. Highly recommended!

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: Absolutely gorgeous campsite! Small and perfectly formed - only 4 camping pitches (all with an electric hook up), with 2 bell tents and 5 cabins as well. All really well spaced out so you’re not on top of each other. The facilities are excellent, and there’s even an on site shop for essentials, and much needed cold drinks and snacks, plus coffee and hot chocolate, which was very welcome in the late evening. Steve and Ruth are lovely, and are on site should you need them through your stay. Great walks straight from your tent too. We meandered through woods and fields to the village for a pub lunch. Not a negative point, but a heads up, this is a child friendly site and there are outdoor play facilities (football net, ping pong table etc) quite near the camping area, so do except some noise if there are children on site. There’s also a play area in the woods, which is behind the cabins. Thoroughly loved our time there and we will definitely be back.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: Location

Disliked: Too many rules. Strange about what spot you parked even though most were empty all weekend. Very small site not much intamacy. Showers super annoying cant push in the button without changing the temperature. No chair to put clothes and sit to change.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Our rules are for your enjoyment and safety and have never had a concern with any guest in regards to them and find they all make an enjoyable stay for all! Was there particular rules that you found offensive... we would be keen to know for sure We have allocated spots for parking as of course it may seem empty (although we were fully booked the weekend you were here) but of course guests may be out for the day or new bookings come through so we need to ensure there is a parking bay to direct them to We do state we are a small site which we actually find guests find intimate and enjoy as such, but if you were were after a large bustle campsite, then no, Seven Acre Woods is not to be! Shower temperature can be amended whilst using... not sure why this was not to be the case and we have plenty hooks to put clothes and find chairs frequently and unfortunately get misused and broken Is a shame you were not fully happy with all, including he value for money but we are pretty much in sync with other sites and our customer service we always as so often praised on, so is sad you did not feel the same... especially with your food bundles and additional extras which were personally delivered to you at your tent! We would hope to see you return however and hopefully experience a better time! Steve, Ruth & Harrison

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: Location, cleanliness and availability of facilities. Owners were so helpful throughout our stay. Delightful location away from major roads, woodland walk to the pub. Not all tent pitches in use so lots of space, and little noise. Electric hookups were a bonus. Honest cubby with bits and pieces you might need is an excellent addition.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: There is a feally relaxed pace on the site, it was small so there were very few people, the hosts are very friendly and will check in to make sure your enjoying your stay. The site is located right on some beautiful woodland next to a Reservoir which brings plenty of wildlife. There are no major roads close by which adds to the peace and quiet, and a no music policy so you can really switch off and chill out. Dispite there being no major roads close by it is still easy to find. The facilities are well built, with instant hot water and are kept very clean. There is also a washing up and drinking water area, and most pitches can have an electric hook up.

Disliked: I did not find anything which I disliked.

Local attractions

This part of the world is rich indeed with history from across the ages. Perhaps most notable among nearby destinations is Battle (10 minutes’ drive), for the abbey and the site of the Battle of Hastings. There’s also much to enjoy at places like Bodiam Castle (15 minutes) or National Trust sites Bateman’s (25 minutes) and Scotney Castle (half an hour). The East Sussex coast is not far off either, and it’s got several splendid places to check out. Hastings (20 minutes) is a good place to start for a buzzing seaside town with classic cliff railways, crazy golf and great contemporary art at the Jerwood Gallery. The dunes of Camber (25 minutes) are popular for a family day out, but if you fancy something a bit quieter have a look at Winchelsea or Bexhill-on-Sea (both 20 minutes). And if you don’t fancy venturing that far? Take a walk through the Woodland Trust site Brede High Woods, by the site, or pay a visit to Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard (five minutes’ drive/an hour’s walk) for a tour, a tasting or just a drink from their Cellar Door Bar.
