Entrance to the site

General

  • Peaceful, well-maintained and family-run park in a central setting
  • Steps from the Shropshire Union Canal for spectacularly scenic strolls
  • A 20-minute drive from Whitchurch and the Welsh border

Cheshire countryside, anyone? In a setting that's quite rightly been pointed out as central to pretty much anywhere? Easily sorted when pitching up at Sunny Side Touring Park.

Set in green countryside with loads of open space, Sunny Side is central indeed: it's about 20 minutes by car to the Welsh border from here, 45 minutes to Wrexham, 50 to Shrewsbury and Chester, an hour to Alton Towers, and an hour and 15 minutes to both Liverpool and Manchester.

And if you're after a peaceful base where you don't want to wander far at all? Also easily sorted, as Sunny Side's Nantwich setting is metres from the Shropshire Union Canal for spectacularly scenic strolls or bike rides along the water.

Sunny Side is family run, and allows only a handful of pitches on site to keep its quiet and relaxed vibe. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed: sort supplies a couple of miles away in the friendly little village of Audlem, where there are restaurants and pubs as well as shops.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

cleanliness of facilities, pristine condition of site, gravel motorhome level pitches, location near Nantwich

    Disliked:

Tents facing motorhome pitches and families kicking balls around. Excellent site for families with children but not for anyone wanting a quiet stay unless there were other gravel pitches we didnt see. Didnt matter to us as we were only passing through. There was another grass section - would have thought the tents would have been better in that one

Location. Wardens We’re really friendly and helpful. Cleanliness and layout of site. Modern facilities Which were cleaned constantly. Lighted walkways. Grass kept shown and flower beds planted up. Lovely statues at entrance. Dog field to walk around. Fires/BBQ’s allowed. Quiet site - Lots of birds about.

    Disliked:

Gravelled awning pitch- we prefer to pitch on grass when possible. Our pitch was waterlogged at the rear Due to excessive rain - all others were dry! The grass surrounding the pitch was turned to mud quickly due to this issue.
    Wasps!!!!
The site is situated off of a small lane in countryside. Unfortunately, the local drivers don’t seem to understand that there’s always a tourist wandering the lane or driving it. We went for a short walk and turned back after several speeding vehicles passed us precariously.

We were welcomed by Neil as soon as we arrived on site, he was friendly and gave us our pitch number and information on social distancing in the toilet and shower block. Even though it was very busy we didn't feel cramped, the pitches were very spacious. The site is immaculate, the toilets and showers were clean and spotless. Neil even came and picked us up from Audlam and brought us back to the site after our meal in the village. We cannot recommend this site enough. We will definitely return.

Local attractions

The canal and a public footpath alongside are steps from the site. From Nantwich, stroll the couple of miles along the level canal towpath for views over town and the Cheshire countryside, passing the Chester Road viaduct and many moored and cruising narrowboats (to get truly envious, lurk around the marina at Basin End). A couple of pubs at Audlem overlook the canal if/when you require a pitstop.

To dive into all things canal and have a natter on the same with knowledgeable types, drop into the Nantwich Canal Centre within 10 minutes' drive. You could also have mightily peaceful potters around the town's shops and wine bars, or the market that runs most days. The leisure centre has an outdoor saltwater pool for dips.

Another market town is at Whitchurch, 20 minutes' drive away and two miles from the Welsh border. It's well worth a wander to see its 100+ listed buildings, and to bag foodie supplies from the speciality shops in town: cheese and pork pies are the top picks to hunt down here.

From Whitchurch, you can take the train to Manchester, reachable in an hour to the north, or Shrewsbury, half an hour south.

Must see

  • The Trentham Estate (13.8 miles)

  • Royal Stafford (14.0 miles)
