  • Luxurious, dog-friendly safari tents on a Northumberland family farm
  • Bamburgh Castle 10 minutes’ drive, and Lindisfarne 35 minutes
  • Wildlife haven 10 minutes’ drive from the sea; honesty shop on site
Set on an extensive farm run by generations of the Douglas family, luxury safari tents await at Feather Down - Northumberland Farm. Less than 10 minutes’ drive to the sea and firmly in the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the pitches are surrounded by cattle and sheep grazing peacefully in neighbouring fields, and acres of crops. Sleeping up to six (and any dogs, of course), the handful of well-appointed safari tents have stylish living and eating quarters lit by oil lamps and candles, as well as private showers. A woodburning stove keeps everything cosy, and on warmer days you can eat outside on your private decking. Pick up goodies for barbecue suppers at the farm’s honesty shop, packed with local produce from herbs to oysters, kippers and smoked line-caught salmon. Buy top-quality lamb and beef reared on the farm to ensure a true farm-to-table experience with minimal food miles. Half the joy of this place is the wildlife, so keep careful watch and you may get to see hares bounding across fields, red deer roaming freely and badgers rummaging around in the undergrowth. By day, yellowhammers, merlins, kestrels, curlews, geese, sandpipers, swans and buntings can all be seen flitting around, and after dark, hooting owls come out to hunt. Stay alert on coastal walks too, as there are frequent sightings of seals basking in the sun and dolphins racing through the waves.

Liked: Amazing set up. The pictures on the site don’t do it the justice that it deserves. From booking to leaving, the whole round customer support excellent. Can’t wait to return.
