  • Peaceful seven-acre site on a Northumberland working farm
  • Five minutes' drive to Hadrian's Wall; 15 minutes to Hexham
  • Families, dogs and groups welcome; accessible bathrooms available
Fabulous scenery meets fascinating history in the area around Greencarts – this peaceful Northumberland spot is in the lovely North Tyne Valley, tucked away between the Northumberland National Park and the North Pennines National Landscape. With spectacular countryside all around and the excellent Hadrian’s Wall just up the road too, it should make a nice stopover for walkers and cyclists. There are seven acres of camping grounds available at this working farm, so there’s plenty of space to go around. All sorts of guests are welcome here, including families, dog owners and groups, but please remember that this is a place that values peace and quiet – it’s not somewhere that tolerates groups that want to drink and make noise. Facilities on site include picnic tables, a launderette, a chemical disposal point and a washing-up area, and you’ll have access to bathroom facilities that include wheelchair-accessible areas. A small number of fire baskets are available to hire on site for cosy campfire evenings; those who’d rather be indoors for the evening can head to the pub five minutes’ drive away in Humshaugh. The village also has a shop, and there are supermarkets 15 minutes’ drive away in Hexham. Hadrian’s Wall is the big attraction around here, and you can hardly miss it – some of its top spots (including the Temple of Mithras and Housesteads Roman Fort) are within 10 minutes’ drive. Greencarts also makes a great base for walks in the national park, outings to Kielder Water and touring grand estates like those at Belsay Hall and Cragside.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Excellent location, has all the basics you need. The two fields means the noisier campers tend to gravitate to the big field, and the quieter ones to the small field, which means everyone gets what they want from the same campsite. There's tree swings for the kids and a football goal, so they can occupy themselves.
Hadrian's wall can be accessed from either side of the campsite- the western side is a quiet track, the eastern side is a busier road.

Disliked There is only one sink which does sometimes lead to a queue to wash up, but not the end of the world, just something to plan for.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Had a great stay , last minute booking for the bank holiday. Camp was busy but the site was large enough you still had privacy. Liked the fact you could have a fire pit ( wood and put supplied) showers and toilets were well stocked and clean . Had WIFI signal. This is a working farm so no entertainment facilities. The night sky star gazing was awesome.

Disliked Would have been happier with more electric hook ups , maybe because it was just so busy.

Liked Plenty of room and choice of fields. Lovely welcome. Clean toilets/showers.
Nice to see it's priced cheaper when only a single person and no extra cost for my dog. Will definitely visit this site again.
