  • Peaceful seven-acre site on a Northumberland working farm
  • Five minutes' drive to Hadrian's Wall; 15 minutes to Hexham
  • Families, dogs and groups welcome; accessible bathrooms available
Fabulous scenery meets fascinating history in the area around Greencarts – this peaceful Northumberland spot is in the lovely North Tyne Valley, tucked away between the Northumberland National Park and the North Pennines National Landscape. With spectacular countryside all around and the excellent Hadrian’s Wall just up the road too, it should make a nice stopover for walkers and cyclists. There are seven acres of camping grounds available at this working farm, so there’s plenty of space to go around. All sorts of guests are welcome here, including families, dog owners and groups, but please remember that this is a place that values peace and quiet – it’s not somewhere that tolerates groups that want to drink and make noise. Facilities on site include picnic tables, a launderette, a chemical disposal point and a washing-up area, and you’ll have access to bathroom facilities that include wheelchair-accessible areas. A small number of fire baskets are available to hire on site for cosy campfire evenings; those who’d rather be indoors for the evening can head to the pub five minutes’ drive away in Humshaugh. The village also has a shop, and there are supermarkets 15 minutes’ drive away in Hexham. Hadrian’s Wall is the big attraction around here, and you can hardly miss it – some of its top spots (including the Temple of Mithras and Housesteads Roman Fort) are within 10 minutes’ drive. Greencarts also makes a great base for walks in the national park, outings to Kielder Water and touring grand estates like those at Belsay Hall and Cragside.

What customers say

This campsite boasts spacious, flat fields with lovely scenery. Owners are very friendly & helpful; facilities are good, basic ones. It's family-friendly with farm animals & close to Hadrian's Wall. Some guests suggested small shower/toilet upgrades & mentioned occasional camper noise. Use the correct track from the main road for larger vehicles.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Great site family friendly, cheap well maintained fields, clean shower/toilet

Disliked Would like a no campfire area. Got stuck between to camp fires and was uncomfortable for it. Would have chosen a no camp fire area if there was one

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Its a 10 min walk up the track to join the Haidrian wall footpath.
Nice big spacious field. Lovely friendly owner. Handy having couple of toilets and showers.

Disliked Not a dislike but more a warning there are two ways into the farm. One is single track narrow lane, not great for larger vehicles/caravans. Check you are going in via the short track from the main road 😊

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Loads of space, good facilities, toilets, showers both clean and spacious, owner is lovely and check in is fast.
Lots of benches, other campers are very friendly, quiet on a night. You can park next to your chosen pitch. You can also pitch where you want to, giving others reasonable space of course. Camping fields are nice and flat.
Great price.

Disliked Shower water pressure on the low side, water is nicely heated and usable.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked Facilities were great. Showers, and toilets. Electric hookup if you wanted it. Flat field so you weren't sleeping on a hill or on rocks.

Just off the Military Road so easy access to drive places.
