  • Dog-friendly site in the Northumberland National Park
  • Half an hour's drive from Kielder Forest and Hadrian's Wall Path
  • Café-bar on site with a patio and veranda; International Dark Sky Area
Remote, wild, spacious and scenic are all terms rightly fitting The Boe Rigg, in Northumberland National Park a few miles from the market town of Bellingham. Walking and cycling routes are all around here, along with a huge range of outdoor activities within a short drive including the high ropes, watersports and zipwires of Kielder Water and Forest. Also within driving distance are several famed north of England attractions such as Hadrian's Wall and Alnwick Castle, both under 40 miles, and the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, under 50. The site's excellent facilities include a café/bar open daily to sell produce and handicrafts from local growers and craftspeople. Among The Boe Rigg's other amenities are accessible washrooms with toilets and hot showers, a launderette with washers and dryers and a washing-up area. Free wifi is available in the main building. Powered grass tent campsite

Liked The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Plenty of space to pitch your tent as there are no allocated areas. The shower and toilets were very clean.

Disliked The grass for pitching was very soft and the entrance to the field was just pure mud. A lot of car and campers were getting stuck which churned up the field more. This made going to the facilities very difficult under foot. The pitches are not well keep or maintained. Apparently there is only one sink for washing up however couldn’t find it. The cafe and reception area are very dated.

From the manager: We appreciate your feedback, though we’re disappointed with your score. This was our opening weekend, and unfortunately, Storm David brought wet and windy weather beyond our control. Campervans were moved to hardstanding, and we asked guests to avoid unnecessary driving and leave cars in the car park, which most did. We were also happy to offer rebooking for another time if anyone preferred to pack up. Your rating is puzzling, as you mentioned our toilets were very clean—yet gave us only a 2.5—and seemingly disliked the location to rate it a 1.
The Café and Bar have just been newly refurbished, with Friday being our first day of opening, so the decor and chairs are brand new and won’t be replaced again this season so we are sorry if you found it not to your taste.

Liked Bar an restaurant was top quality, food excellent and reasonably prices and staff friendly.

Pitch great, nice views, lots of little chick's running around, very chill stay.

Art gallery and coffee shop on site.

Disliked Tiolat and showers abit rubbish but I think they are being refurbed.

Dish washing facilities poor, one sink in room that looked like it had freezers for the restaurant. Probs worst I've seen.

Liked The Boe Rigg has everything a camper would need. A quality bar and restaurant serving good food. The pitches are of a very good size, well spaced out and offer brilliant views.
The amenities are clean, tidy and well maintained. They also have the best showers I've used on a campsite, hot, powerful and no annoying timer.
We truly enjoyed our stay.

Local attractions

Kielder Water and Forest within 16 miles are full of watersports activities such as canoeing, sailing, and waterskiing, along with water walker and sea scooter hire. A high ropes course, climbing, zipwiring, fencing, archery and crossbow are among the many forest activities available on and above land. Three of the attractions of the Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage site are within a short drive: Housesteads Roman fort, the most complete in Britain; Vindolanda, and Chesters Roman Fort, six miles from Hexham. Also famed in the region is Alnwick Castle and Garden 37 miles away, made up of huge formal gardens including the world's largest treehouse, and in a setting that will be instantly recognised by Harry Potter fans (broomstick training is available during the summer months: how magic). The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is about 45 miles from here, to reach Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island via moorland, countryside and ancient forest. The site is 45 miles from Carlisle.
