  • Dog-friendly site in the Northumberland National Park
  • Half an hour's drive from Kielder Forest and Hadrian's Wall Path
  • Café-bar on site with a patio and veranda; International Dark Sky Area
Remote, wild, spacious and scenic are all terms rightly fitting The Boe Rigg, in Northumberland National Park a few miles from the market town of Bellingham. Walking and cycling routes are all around here, along with a huge range of outdoor activities within a short drive including the high ropes, watersports and zipwires of Kielder Water and Forest. Also within driving distance are several famed north of England attractions such as Hadrian's Wall and Alnwick Castle, both under 40 miles, and the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, under 50. The site's excellent facilities include a café/bar open at weekends serving breakfasts and alternating evening menus such as pizzas or burgers. Among The Boe Rigg's other amenities are newly refurbished washrooms with toilets and hot showers as well as a washing-up area and a small shop selling camping essentials and basic supplies such as sugar and teabags. Campfires and barbecues are both allowed but must be off the ground.

What customers say

This spot offers amazing views & a peaceful vibe, focused on nature. Guests love the friendly owners, clean amenities, and the bar/restaurant's good food. Pitches are spacious. A few note dated facilities or occasional noise, with upgrades planned. Highly recommended for a relaxing rural getaway.

Liked Great location with fabulous views. Pitches were nicely marked out. Showers and toilets good.

Disliked Menu was very basic and disappointing considering positive reviews on Trip Advisor from 2025. Closed on Sunday. Price wasn’t high compared with other sites with much better facilities.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, as you rightly point out we are in a great locations and the view are fabulous here
The site is under new ownership in 2026 so the reviews you read on trip advisor for last year are not relevant as many of the other reviews on here do point out so although our food offering is somewhat different so is everything else that is important on a campsite, in particular our newly refurbished facilities.

Liked Great site, stunning views.

Disliked Only 1 toilet in use.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review we are please you enjoyed our site. We are lucky to have such an amazing vista.
Unfortunately, there are times when the toilet misuse causes them to be out of order, which is not particularly pleasant for our staff to deal with 😒
There were still other toilets and urinals available for the short time it took to sort the issue then we could all go back to enjoying the more pleasant views!

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed our site, the location is ideal for exploring Northumberland national park
The Cafe/Bar opening times vary depending on the day/season etc but unfortunately Pitch up does not give us a place to state opening times but we do keep our Facebook page up to date with this information.

Liked A friendly welcome. Lovely semi-wild pitch but with electricity and water close by. Wildlife - ducks and sparrows visited us most evenings with the latter actually coming inside the van! Beautiful, warm, clean facilities. Peace. Full blue moon rising orange in the sky.

Disliked Plastic flowers!

Local attractions

Kielder Water and Forest within 16 miles are full of watersports activities such as canoeing, sailing, and waterskiing, along with water walker and sea scooter hire. A high ropes course, climbing, zipwiring, fencing, archery and crossbow are among the many forest activities available on and above land. Three of the attractions of the Hadrian's Wall UNESCO World Heritage site are within a short drive: Housesteads Roman fort, the most complete in Britain; Vindolanda, and Chesters Roman Fort, six miles from Hexham. Also famed in the region is Alnwick Castle and Garden 37 miles away, made up of huge formal gardens including the world's largest treehouse, and in a setting that will be instantly recognised by Harry Potter fans (broomstick training is available during the summer months: how magic). The Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is about 45 miles from here, to reach Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island via moorland, countryside and ancient forest. The site is 45 miles from Carlisle.
