  • Well-maintained and peaceful North Yorkshire site a mile from Leyburn
  • Aysgarth Falls and Wensleydale Creamery within a half-hour drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches just outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park
The town of Leyburn is often styled as the ‘gateway to the Yorkshire Dales’ – and it’s a fitting description, as it’s just a little way from the national park’s eastern border. Tucked away down a country lane about a mile from the town sits Cow Close Caravan and Camping, a small and friendly site that makes an excellent base for some time spent exploring the local scenery and all the attractions of North Yorkshire. This is a very attractive spot, looking out over quiet green farmland in all directions and with lots of wildlife around – you’ll often spot deer, hares and pheasants while on site. And it’s a well-located spot too, with a footpath leading to Leyburn for a good range of independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. This area is prime territory for walkers, who can choose from all manner of trails, including gentle strolls along Leyburn Shawl or more extensive moorland walks up and around Penhill. Cyclists are well served too, with routes ranging from easy pedals to the Tour de France-worthy challenges of Buttertubs Pass. Beyond all that, you’ll also be able to visit castles, waterfalls and museums, and sample the famed cheeses of the Wensleydale Creamery. Back on site, you’ll be staying on spacious marked-out pitches (some of which have a gentle slope) and will have access to a large modern amenities block with toilets and hot showers, plus handy extras like large mirrors and plugs for hairdryers. There’s also a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point, and barbecues are available to hire. If you need help or local advice, just ask – there’s always someone around to lend a hand.

Liked Loved the quiet site, just far enough away from taffic and the village, but close enough to walk. Shower facilities were clean and tidy

Disliked Think the only thing for us the pitches were abit close, first night felt abit crammed in, but the with people gone, sunday and monday were much better,

Could of done with a shop or a vending machine on site for things.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Fabulous location, stunning views, clean facilities and welcoming helpful hosts.

Disliked Pitches are very close together and if the site was full I think there could be long waits for the showers. 2 in each block for the whole site and the glamping pods.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for visiting our site. We are glad you found our location, views and facilities were good. Regarding the comment about our shower facilities, we find that there are rarely queues for our showers. Many people choose to use their own facilities, and others choose quieter times to visit eg later at night or early in the morning.
Thank you for saying you would recommend us to others, but disappointing that you would not revisit.

Would go back to this site no problem

Liked Clean and tidy site , warm welcome , good information board for local things to do . Easy walks off site to Leyburn . Grass pitches well spaced .

Disliked Dishwashing area , hot water temp a bit hit and miss .

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for visiting our site and constructive feedback. With regard to the dishwashing water temperature, this has been checked and slightly increased, and run for a period of time to check for fluctuations in temperature. We have to be careful about water temperatures for fear of scalding.
