  • Simple but scenic site on a North Yorkshire working farm
  • Harrogate and Yorkshire Dales National Park both 15 minutes' drive
  • Farm tours on request; pub five minutes' walk away
As spots for a North Yorkshire outdoor break go, this is a particularly nifty one – the pitches at Moorcock Hall Farm are part of a small site within a working beef and arable farm in the little village of Scotton, with gorgeous countryside views all around and lots of amenities and attractions within easy reach. With rural breaks, walks and bike rides are often high up on the list – and this area certainly delivers on that front, as well as providing a pub five minutes' walk for a well-earned pint at the end of it all. Once you’ve warmed up on local routes, you may well want to head into the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the edge of which is about 10 minutes' drive away. Meanwhile, a wander around Harrogate (15 minutes' drive away) is also recommended, as is an outing to Mother Shipton’s Cave, five minutes away on the edge of the nearest town of Knaresborough. Back at the farm, you’ll be staying at a pop-up site that’s keeping things simple by asking guests to be self contained (please note that means no toilets or showers, and no hot water on site). It’s a peaceful and laidback place where you’re welcome to bring dogs and barbecues along, and the owner is happy to show people around by arrangement.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Perfect for overnight stay as we had all our own facilities. Close to Knaresborough which we visited through the day. It was within walking distance of a pub which served food and welcomed dogs.
