  • Peaceful adults-only site two miles from the Norfolk Broads
  • A 15-minute drive from Norwich city centre; 25 minutes from the coast
  • Atmospheric night-time vibes from lit woodlands; café and farm shop
If boating on The Broads has long been on your bucket list, take a look here: the dog-friendly Black Barn Farm is a peaceful place to pitch up two miles from the edge of the national park. Here, the adults-only pitches are in a 22-acre field in an established orchard and surrounded by woodlands, making for a rather chilled-out stay. This area is known as the big sky country, so splendid sunsets and lights in the trees create a pretty nice night-time vibe. You’ll be able to kick off the evening with a firepit or barbecue too, as both are permitted on site. A 15-minute drive from Norwich, this site is on the edge of Salhouse, a rural Broads village. So, bridleways and footpaths may be the first thing to capture your attention, as they lead the way to walking, wildlife spotting and canoe hire in the Salhouse Broad – or there's a place to launch your own canoe or paddleboard, two miles away from the site. Convenience is key at this site, starting with the toilets and showers inside the barn, all heated with auto light switches for that extra ease. The barn also has a small farm shop and a café that serves up sizeable breakfasts plus sandwiches and snacks. Nearby, a train station and bus stop are within walking distance with regular services to Norwich city centre or the coast. Foodie? The local food shop is a 20-minute walk away along a public footpath (or a five-minute car journey). For more specific bits, there’s a bigger supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away and beer aficionados will find a brewery and pub five minutes’ drive away too.

What customers say

This adult-only site offers spacious, level pitches with water/electric. Clean, modern facilities are praised. The barn cafe serves great breakfasts; shops and friendly staff are also highlights. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, with easy access to the Broads, Norwich, and public transport. Wi-Fi and peak-time facilities could be improved.

Powered grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Pitches are well spaced with electric hookup. The toilet and showers are nearby and very clean and modern. Everything is right next to the shopping barn with farmshop, cafe and variety of craft stalls. That can be very busy but the campsite stays quiet. It was quite a discovery.

Disliked Poor phone signal

Powered grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Met by friendly chap who explained the set up and then. Loved the spacious pitches with shrubbery either side of us which gave some privacy. Loved having an individual water supply to each pitch (although this is not to all pitches just yet as still a work in progress) we could pitch up anywhere we chose which was nice. We chose down the end where it would be quieter due to the farm shop footfall. (Although the pheasants were particularly noisy especially at dawn 😆 it was great seeing them roaming around the place though)
Farm shop was a wonderful addition. We didn't use the cafe there but bought our provisions from there. Best tasting T bone steak we've eaten in a very long time. Also got some Burgers , chicken and the coal for the bbq which my husband said was amazing to cook with. Nice stroll to the local pub The Stag. Very friendly attentive staff and great food. This can be reached literally via a footpath from across the road but you'd obviously need a torch if returning in the dark. We had our dog with us and the walk we did from the site was lovely. Very dog friendly even in the Farm Shop. We chose this site because it was adult only and very dog friendly. It didn't disappoint.

Disliked We pretty much loved everything however only 8 stars given purely because there were only 2 showers for the whole site which meant waiting around for them to become free. They were lovely clean and hot showers though. All facilities were unisex which is ok but not overly ideal

Liked Great spacious pitches. No host greeting on arrival but we were happy to pick our own pitch. Toilets and showers were generally pretty clean. Cafe onsite was amazing - we had two great breakfasts there! Overall a lovely quiet site.

Disliked No WiFi available but we were fine using our phone signal.

Liked Huge pitches with good screening between even though the bushes are still in their early stages. Lots of wildlife, very peaceful. Very friendly and helpful welcome from Trevor and Ellie-May. Fully serviced grass pitch, mostly level and well drained. Good lighting at night. Facilities modern and clean and open 24hrs. A barnful of shops and cafe on the doorstep too - and a farmers market with 70+ stalls one Saturday every month.

Disliked Nothing.

Local attractions

Nosy about Norwich (15 minutes’ drive)? Those of you who aren’t familiar with this cultural city will find there’s much to stick your nose into, from bargain hunting around the old market to a full-on shopping trip or a pitstop tour of the independent eateries and historic sites… the highlight reel includes the hilltop Norwich Castle and the 11th-century cathedral. Those of you who are keen to weave a bit of the seaside into your way will want to head on over to the sandy beach and dunes at Winterton beach (35 minutes) or onto Great Yarmouth (25 minutes). This seaside resort town is all about the traditional, including a funfair, sandy beaches and the Sea Life Great Yarmouth aquarium. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens (25 minutes) has red pandas, tigers and leopards among them, while Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (25 minutes) couples up snakes, wallabies and alpacas with rides and playgrounds.
