  • Peaceful adults-only site two miles from the Norfolk Broads
  • A 15-minute drive from Norwich city centre; 25 minutes from the coast
  • Atmospheric night-time vibes from lit woodlands; café and farm shop
If boating on The Broads has long been on your bucket list, take a look here: the dog-friendly Black Barn Farm is a peaceful place to pitch up two miles from the edge of the national park. Here, the adults-only pitches are in a 22-acre field in an established orchard and surrounded by woodlands, making for a rather chilled-out stay. This area is known as the big sky country, so splendid sunsets and lights in the trees create a pretty nice night-time vibe. You’ll be able to kick off the evening with a firepit or barbecue too, as both are permitted on site. A 15-minute drive from Norwich, this site is on the edge of Salhouse, a rural Broads village. So, bridleways and footpaths may be the first thing to capture your attention, as they lead the way to walking, wildlife spotting and canoe hire in the Salhouse Broad – or there's a place to launch your own canoe or paddleboard, two miles away from the site. Convenience is key at this site, starting with the toilets and showers inside the barn, all heated with auto light switches for that extra ease. The barn also has a small farm shop and a café that serves up sizeable breakfasts plus sandwiches and snacks. Nearby, a train station and bus stop are within walking distance with regular services to Norwich city centre or the coast. Foodie? The local food shop is a 20-minute walk away along a public footpath (or a five-minute car journey). For more specific bits, there’s a bigger supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away and beer aficionados will find a brewery and pub five minutes’ drive away too.

Liked What can’t we like.
Upon arrival we were meeted and greeted by Trevor the manager. He was very knowledgeable about the area. He said we could take a pick of a pitch and we found a really secluded corner.
The weather was so hot and this kept us in the shade for the dog
Each pitch has its own water tap and ehu.
Washing up facilities were above standard.
It is based within the grounds of a shopping mall and garden centre, which visitors came to every day, and breakfast could be smelled cooking from around 7am, so if you wanted to treat yourself, it’s worth while going there.
Every morning we experienced the morning call of the many different kinds of birds, but we love that kind of thing.
It is in an ideal spot for visiting the Broads and there is a pub half an hours walk and a chip shop and Premier supermarket half an hours walk the other way
The showers and toilets are unisex but that was what we knew before we went. Wasn’t a problem. They are private. And probably the best showers we have had.
All in all, it is worth the money we paid and we had a brilliant time
Will be returning

Disliked Couldn’t get Wi-Fi, but yet again, we knew this when booking
To be honest, we made conversation with each other more than we do at home.
5 star for that

Electric grass pitch

Liked It was very quiet, not so busy on our weekend visit. We didn't stay in one place all day because we came for a coastal walk, which is a 25-30 minute drive away. You'll find a Premier store about 1 mile away in the village. They open the upstairs cafe for public access around 9-10 AM. There were a lot of people at breakfast time.

The toilets (three individual units plus one accessible) and showers (two individual units) are very clean. There's also a water tap outside.

Very-very poor signal on EE and poor on Vodafone. Didn't request access for the wifi. Found out this is a problem in the entire area, not only on this site.

Truly recommended, although I'm not sure how busy the site gets at other times

Electric grass pitch

Liked Although we only live 30 miles away we decided to have a little long weekend break in our new found bolt hole which is black Barn Farm. It has all the things you would want tranquility and easy access to the city of Norwich if you want that. We particularly loved the friendly nature of all the staff members not only were they courteous but enthused to help with any query.
Having a small promenade of shops beneath their restaurant is a stroke of genius providing a small butchers and clothing outlets. Upstairs At the restaurant You can expect Good service And a friendly welcome Not to mention A gloriously large balcony Overlooking the site and the Farmland Beyond. We loved it and we'll be coming back again soon.

Disliked Needed a little grass trim on the pitches prior to occupation.
But can't wait to see how the hedging progresses to provide individual bays with a natural border.
The Elson point needs some Renovations.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Trevor and Ellie the site owner/daughter very friendly and accommodating. Individual pitches separated on either side by hedge shrubbery. Large orchard great for dog walking exercise and very large barn with individual shops and restaurant. The site is a great location to explore the Broads and there are many places to visit within a 30 minutes drive.

Liked Very convenient location for major routes. Open, pleasant site but with good facilities.

Disliked Only two showers for the whole site. A few more would be useful at busy times. No WiFi which would be useful for planning outings etc.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Generous size pitches easily marked out with wild flowers which attracted bees and butterflies. The site is clean and tidy with good quality showers and toilets. The owner and his daughter were friendly and helpful. The cafe is great with a chilled atmosphere, great food and drink at reasonable prices.

Disliked Mirrors would be good over the basins in the toilets. Better signage to the pitches.

Liked We were practically the only people using the facilities as there weren't many people on the site at the time of our stay, They were clean and well maintained, apparently staff from the barn used them to but it wasn't an issue for us.
Good-sized flat pitch, and plenty of choice of pitches(obviously!)
Good base for exploring the local area.

Disliked As mentioned by other reviewers, there were only two showers and four toilets. I really wouldn't have wanted to stay if the site had been full.
Absolutely no instructions when arriving at the site, we spoke to the friendly lady in the barn selling wooden items who basically told us to help ourselves, which we did, we didn't see anyone connected to site throughout our stay, no issue I suppose but some local info would have been nice.
We only walked through the barn on our arrival and it looked really good but it appeared closed every day after that.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The site is set on a beautiful setting, good size pitches, access to water and electric at each pitch, shower blocks were clean with a large pot wash area.
The Barn hosted many different offerings which was lovely to walk around and try the local produce (farm shop/butchers/bakers/treatments/jeweller's/various different stalls )
Didnt try the cafe but heard great things.

NB. I would suggest avoiding pitching closest to the barn as this become very busy and noisy especially on the weekend

Disliked Arrival instruction would have been helpful, but it was a phone call away and we were greeted with a polite response.

On our last night, a lot of noise from a group in the tepees, music playing and shouting until 0100 - did contact the phone numbers provided but had no response or acknowledgment
