  • Peaceful site in the Wensum Valley, south facing with excellent views
  • Easily explore the county from a convenient mid-Norfolk setting
  • Plenty of fishing, walks and cycle paths locally
If you’re in real and urgent need of a peaceful getaway, then a stay at Bylaugh Country Park should do the job. It might be close to civilisation – the town of Dereham is within 10 minutes’ drive and Norwich is half an hour away – but the quiet and secluded site in the Norfolk countryside should still give you all the escape you need. This part of Norfolk is paradise for walkers and cyclists, as it's well placed for exploring the county. You can join Marriott’s Way footpath, cycle path and bridleway about 10 minutes from Bylaugh Country Park, or follow its entire length by starting in Aylsham, less than half an hour away. The red route of Norwich’s Pedalways cycle path network is also within easy reach. When you’re feeling peckish, head to one of the many restaurants within 10 minutes of the site or fire up the barbecue for a home-cooked meal; pick up supplies from the small on-site shop or from the village of North Elmham, five minutes' drive drive away. Handily, North Elmham also has a popular fish and chips shop. Once you’ve satisfied your appetite, relax in the peace and quiet, looking out over the Wensum Valley and the quiet Norfolk countryside.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Nice clean and tidy campsite. Good sized pitches. Plenty of open space and football pitch for the children.
Several local attractions for day out.
We booked one of the last available pitches with electric point and the site was mostly booked up and it wasn’t crowded. Would definitely revisit for a longer visit and make base in mid Norfolk.

Disliked Not much really….
Small shop on site.
Site bar is a beer tent not really an issue, but would be great to one day have proper building.
Childs play area is a random bunch of plastic garden toys. But they were happy

Liked We had such a lovely family break at Bylaugh Country Park that we ended up staying an extra two nights!

Three generations of us camped together, including our toddler, and it was a fantastic site for a family getaway. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. The pitches were spacious and well laid out, and it was easy to find a nice flat spot to pitch our tent.

The shower and toilet facilities were spotless throughout our stay and had everything we needed. There were plenty of showers too, so we never had to queue. The little shop was a great bonus for picking up forgotten essentials, and having laundry facilities on site at a reasonable price gave us real peace of mind.

Our toddler loved the selection of toys and games available, and they got plenty of use. We also enjoyed the occasional entertainment on site. Our pitch was close to the entertainment area, but it wasn't at all distracting on the evenings we chose not to join in.

The location was perfect. We loved the woodland walks straight from and on the campsite where we spotted lots of wildlife. They were perfect to allow the dogs to use some energy before relaxing near the tent.

It was also an ideal base for exploring Norfolk, with most places within an hour's drive. During our stay we visited Blakeney, Holkham, Great Yarmouth, the Norfolk Broads and Thetford Forest.

A special recommendation goes to Redwings Horse Sanctuary nearby – it was a real highlight of the trip.

Top tip: Bring strong tent pegs, as the ground is quite rocky!

Disliked Nothing really, phone signal was hard to find but there was wifi near the shop. We were camping and if anything this made us put the phones aside and enjoy being together.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Large pitches, good toilets, warm showers. Friendly and courteous hosts. Drinking water at several locations. Play equipment for children. Location in the country was superb. Lots of places to visit for days out. Good for nature watching with woods adjacent and guinea fowl wandering about the site.

Disliked Very loud music on event nights, loud children in the evenings and quite a bit a swearing from families. Advertised as a quiet pitch which it was during the day but for the evenings not until 10pm. Some dog faeces found.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback
Our quiet time is from 10.30 pm so noise until then is permitted
Unfortunately we do not have control over peoples children perhaps you should have gone and seen the parents or come and told us yourselves
As for dog Faeces we can only hope again that most people are respectful and clear up after there dog if you had come across it again maybe you should have mentioned it at reception and we would have cleared it up like we always do
I think an adults only site would be more preferable to yourselves

It's 5star campsite,it worth every penny! we wish could stayed longer!

Powered grass campsite

Liked Campsite was so beautiful, peaceful and well maintained, ground was nice flat, it had a good size space for our tent, there are plenty of kids play area, garden toys and woodland to walk around.
The owners of the campsite are extremely friendly and helpful.
When we stayed there were some family entertainment in the evenings (quiz night, bingo, live music) my kids absolutely loved it!
▪︎Spotless toilets!
Toilets are always clean and never run out of toilet roll.
▪︎Spotless showers!
Each shower cubicle is spacious, each room has plenty of hooks to hang your belongings and there is a stool in each shower and most importantly you don't need to keep pushing the water button, it stays in until you turn it off! and always have plenty of hot water.
It has a hair dryer too.
▪︎Plenty of covered communal picnic table if it rains, there are 3 fridges and freezers, even has a kettle and microwave.
Washing machine and dryer if you need it (for really little extra cost )
▪︎WiFi wasn't strong but because it we enjoyed more as family time

Disliked Nothing!

Local attractions

Angling fans will be well served with a stay at Bylaugh Country Park – the Wensum river is nearby, as are several carp lakes including the Lenwade and Billingford lakes, both ripe for fishing. The Billingford Fishing Lakes are only five minutes' drive away from the site, whereas Lenwade sits 10 minutes' drive away. If a beach break is more your bag, it's a 40-minute drive to the northern coast of Norfolk, where you can explore the Norfolk Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, walk the Norfolk Coast Path and visit the scenic seaside towns that line it. Head back in time with a trip on the steam trains at Mid-Norfolk Railway and Bure Valley Railway, both within 30 minutes of the site, or by visiting the stately homes of Blickling Estate, Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall and Sandringham, all within 40 minutes of Bylaugh. There’s plenty close at hand for entertaining the kids too: they can meet the wildlife at Pensthorpe Natural Park, run wild at BeWILDerwood or get their own taste of history at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure. If they’re up for a slightly longer jaunt in the car, you can all get your adrenaline pumping on the rides at Pleasurewood Hills theme park.
