Warwickshire countryside

  • Small and simple site on a Warwickshire family farm
  • A 15-minute drive from Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick Castle
  • Hikes, fishing and open-water swimming in the surrounding area
Well, here’s a winning Warwickshire location for an alfresco break – Owl Barn Farm Camping is a small and family-oriented site 15 minutes’ drive from Stratford-upon-Avon and close to the Cotswolds National Landscape. This countryside site is part of a family-run farm that you’ll be sharing with the resident chickens and goats. (They live in a separate enclosure, but are always happy to receive visitors…) You’ll be staying on grass pitches with access to simple facilities such as toilets, showers and a washing-up area. As for activities, on select dates during high season, the site runs popular goat-yoga sessions. Your cat-cow pose will never be the same after attempting it with a pygmy goat on your back… Filling your days with outdoor pursuits should be straightforward around here: there are lots of walking trails to choose from, plus options nearby for fishing, paddleboarding and open-water swimming. You’ll be able to tick off major landmarks too, including Stratford’s various Shakespeare-themed attractions and Warwick Castle (15 minutes’ drive). Meanwhile, if you’re here on a Saturday, you’ll be able to head over the road and seek out treasures at Wellesbourne Airfield Market. For other shopping (such as meal ingredients), there are a couple of supermarkets five minutes’ drive away; for those who'd rather eat out, there are a few pubs around the area and plenty of places to choose from in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great location, clean toilets, adorable animals, friendly staff.

Disliked We knew that the showers were 50p but it was slightly inconvenient as we don’t usually carry cash. And the water temperature was a bit all over the place but I think that was only when others were also using the water.
Wasn’t very clear on arrival where to go and check in.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Beautiful, quiet location in an area really handy for lots of sightseeing.

The pitch was a really generous size, the owners were lovely and the facilities clean.

We booked for 2 nights but booked an extra because we loved it so much!

My little girl LOVED the animals and the extra freedom she had to run around and explore. She made lots of friends and is already asking to return.

After a couple of years fighting cancer this us just what we needed to reconnect and make memories. Thank you!!

Disliked Nothing! An electric hook up would be nice but it was also good to detach from the screen. Only issue we had was keeping food cool as it was pretty warm. Use of a fridge or a freezer would make it even more perfect!

Liked The peaceful well kept site
The friendly and helpful owners
The facilities (loos and dishwashing) are simple but do the job, feels just like camping used to
The goats and horses
Excellent value for money

Disliked Lack of bin for recycling (obviously we couldn’t take recycling home but it would have been handy not to)

Local attractions

National Trust - Charlecote Park (five minutes’ drive), on the banks of the River Avon, is a Tudor-era mansion that was refurbished in Elizabethan Revival style in the 1800s. As well as a servants’ quarter with a Victorian kitchen, a brewhouse and a laundry room, there’s splendid parkland – designed by Capability Brown and inhabited by deer. Warwick Castle (15 minutes) was built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century and is remarkably well preserved, with opulent staterooms and the impressive Great Hall, with its chequered floor and displays of weapons and armour. Attractions in Stratford-upon-Avon (15 minutes) include Shakespeare’s Birthplace, a half-timbered building with themed areas exploring the Bard’s influences and his works. His wife Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, a thatched structure on the outskirts of town, has original furniture and pretty gardens. For something as far removed from Elizabethan literature as possible, head to the Stratford-upon-Avon Racecourse, with two enclosures – and a Champagne Bar…
