Warwickshire countryside

  • Small and simple site on a Warwickshire family farm
  • A 15-minute drive from Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick Castle
  • Hikes, fishing and open-water swimming in the surrounding area
Well, here’s a winning Warwickshire location for an alfresco break – Owl Barn Farm Camping is a small and family-oriented site 15 minutes’ drive from Stratford-upon-Avon and close to the Cotswolds National Landscape. This countryside site is part of a family-run farm that you’ll be sharing with the resident chickens and goats. (They live in a separate enclosure, but are always happy to receive visitors…) You’ll be staying on grass pitches with access to simple facilities such as toilets, showers and a washing-up area. As for activities, on select dates during high season, the site runs popular goat-yoga sessions. Your cat-cow pose will never be the same after attempting it with a pygmy goat on your back… Filling your days with outdoor pursuits should be straightforward around here: there are lots of walking trails to choose from, plus options nearby for fishing, paddleboarding and open-water swimming. You’ll be able to tick off major landmarks too, including Stratford’s various Shakespeare-themed attractions and Warwick Castle (15 minutes’ drive). Meanwhile, if you’re here on a Saturday, you’ll be able to head over the road and seek out treasures at Wellesbourne Airfield Market. For other shopping (such as meal ingredients), there are a couple of supermarkets five minutes’ drive away; for those who'd rather eat out, there are a few pubs around the area and plenty of places to choose from in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked The lady who ran the campsite, (apologies I don’t remember the name) was incredibly friendly and answered all of our questions regarding the goats and other animals around the campsite. A nice small campsite at a great price. A lovely vibe and seeing all the animals like the horses as well were so friendly. We got to play with the goats which was a first for us all. Very chilled family

Disliked If I’m being really picky it’s annoying the showers only take 50p coins.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Great location. And open countryside pitch. Scenic and quiet. Nice addition having chickens and goats nearby.

Disliked Toilet/shower block could have been cleaner. Mats on floor were dirty and bins were full and loo roll not replenished in all the toilets. Mirror was dirty on arrival Sunday pm but had been cleaned Monday am .

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Very peaceful. Sister had booking for the goat yoga on the Sunday morning, which she thoroughly enjoyed! Would stay here again.

Disliked Toilet and shower block could do with some TLC. Fridge/freezer not accessible to Males, as it’s within the Ladies side of facilities block.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Owl Barn campsite is good if you’re looking for laidback , left to your own devices, simple, grassy pitches, with no frills. The toilets and showers were in a portacabin, and they were fine. The plants and simple decoration was a nice touch. I’m glad that they remained lit up at night that being the only light source on site after dark, thank you for reminding us to bring plenty of torches! We liked that there were chickens poking about, and that we got to visit the goats in their field who were happy to receive a fuss.
Good for bird enthusiasts. We could hear owls at night!

The website should mention Touchdown cafe, good food, but a long wait as it’s very busy. Great if you like aircraft!!

Disliked Before I travelled, I was really worried about finding the entrance to the campsite and getting lost, because the satnav final destination picture shows a house a few metres down the road and not the entrance to the campsite which isn’t well signposted. There is a photo of the entrance to the campsite on the web, but it’s a very small sign that you can miss if you don’t know that’s what you’re looking for. I had some email and text communication with staff ahead of time and they were very helpful, but I would recommend a nice big sign to welcome people in.

It was useful to know that showers cost 50p from the website, but what it doesn’t say is that you need exact change for the machine. Luckily I had enough 50ps with me!

I had naïvely thought that goat yoga might have been included in the price for camping, which it is not.

Liked Really nice layout. A big field with generous mown pitches, surrounded by trees and countryside. Next to a small airfield which adds to the interest, not noise. Quiet and peaceful.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Lovely host and a very clean and tidy place to stay close to Stratford upon avon. The goats and chickens were very friendly but watch out for the cockerel as he’s a bit moody 😆. Shower facilities could do with an update but they do what you need and are open 24hours.

Would definitely stay again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Really lovely laid-back campsite. Lots of space between each pitch. The owner, Vicky, was so friendly and chatted with our daughter about her goats and chickens. Clean toilets and showers. Close to Stratford upon Avon.

Local attractions

National Trust - Charlecote Park (five minutes’ drive), on the banks of the River Avon, is a Tudor-era mansion that was refurbished in Elizabethan Revival style in the 1800s. As well as a servants’ quarter with a Victorian kitchen, a brewhouse and a laundry room, there’s splendid parkland – designed by Capability Brown and inhabited by deer. Warwick Castle (15 minutes) was built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century and is remarkably well preserved, with opulent staterooms and the impressive Great Hall, with its chequered floor and displays of weapons and armour. Attractions in Stratford-upon-Avon (15 minutes) include Shakespeare’s Birthplace, a half-timbered building with themed areas exploring the Bard’s influences and his works. His wife Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, a thatched structure on the outskirts of town, has original furniture and pretty gardens. For something as far removed from Elizabethan literature as possible, head to the Stratford-upon-Avon Racecourse, with two enclosures – and a Champagne Bar…
